I worked for Black Horse for over a year on many different accounts. They were very good to work for until I made a couple of mistakes. I took a road in Chicago that their viaduct map in the office said was OK, but it was not. I ended up hitting a bolt that was hanging down from the L tracks and it ripped up the roof of the trailer($4800 worth of damage). I was told by my terminal manager that it was not my fault and he threw the reprimand 3 day suspension form away. He left the terminal shortly after to go into sales. Then about 3 months later I was hooking up to a trailer in the dark and did not realize someone had dropped it a little too high. I was driving a 2 pedal automatic that you have to give a little throttle when backing under a trailer and I went under the kingpin and caused minor damage to the tractor and trailer. Then about 2 weeks later I was fired by the regional manager who used the first incident against me. He did not agree with the fact that their map was wrong and was the reason I hit the bolt on the viaduct. He said and I quote "No one was in the truck with you forcing you to go that way". As long as you are perfect you should do fine with them on a dedicated run. Do not screw up though.

Like you said YOU made mistakes !

Every driver knows you can't trust maps especially if the viaduct/bridge is less than 14ft. In Chicago anytime you go under anything you better be certain your gonna make it. I have seen ALOT of trailers peeled back over the years. As for junping the pin --- No excuse driver error--- Didn't they teach you in school to back up to it, hook lines and lights, check height then proceed to hook?

I worked for Baker before the were taken over by Blackhorse there in Batavia. The 1 thing I remember is TAD ia a little weasel. Never trust that guy. I hear he runs Carolstream's yard.

He didn't hit the viaduct . He hit a bolt hanging from it . Not his fault or the map's . The same thing happened to me in Queens in NY . I was going under a bridge I had been under a dozen times before and hit a small piece of metal left by another trailer that had hit the bridge .

If your reading this and your wondering about starting a carrier with Black Horse....do yourself a favor and please keep looking for employment!! I currently work for BHC and its been a nightmare!! I was promised about 2500 miles a week, in reality it turned out to be only 1500 miles a week. Which at .38 a mile is 570.00/wk gross. They pay 6.25 a stop but you only get about 5 stops a day. Their insurance is ####!! you pay 57.00 a week for a 3000.00 deductable then its only 80/20 after the deductable has been met. Currently Im only driving 600/wk, they are promising more frieght, but when you ask them when they have no answer for you.
Another thing, probably the main thing that pisses me off is that they always screw up your pay!! They always screw up your mileage pay and when you confront them with it, it takes them two to three weeks to pay you back. Very mismanaged and horrible comunication!! They'll tell you that you get paid holidays... well you do, however you also have to work the holidays too! Even Christmas!! Please Please Please dont let your family suffer!! If this is your absolute last resort, feel free to work here, if not, look elsewhere you wont be disappointed!!

Black Horse has a dedicated contract with Aldi food stores here in the Pittsburgh area and rarely have openings. From what I am told they start you at 17-hr and you are home every night.

I'm thinking they must not be too bad--at least in Eastern Pa--at least on the ALDI account in Center Valley--they have a lot of part-timers though--The ones I have met are all older--mostly teamster ex-freight haulers--and all though nice guys--they are VERY set in their ways and what they will and won't do--and seem to be ok with them----course depends on where you are and what BHC do in that area--but they do handle most of the ALDI'S.......
