    If a fella likes a square, in your face hood that makes no apologies or concessions to the aero crowd, then the 9900 and the Marmon fit that bill to a T.

    One of the big differences between SC-BC engines,besides cam journal size,were the fuel injection systems. Both still had similar PT fuel systems (Pressure/Time) but small cams were just a little easier to turn up,with common hand tools,snap ring pliers,and an allen wrench. Could be done in a few minutes by anyone,and that was big part of the problem. Guys thought they knew what they were doing,easy to turn up,but also easily to kill it. A few throttle shaft shims,bigger fuel button,and a stronger spring,or spring shims if you wanted more rpms,and open the injector travel. People would turn them up,but you better understand what's going on inside that engine when this is done,or you can literally destroy it in hours. And you would destroy it,too,if you didn't watch or have a good pyrometer. Never lug it on a hill,would send the exhaust temp off the charts,esp. out west in the thin,higher air. Small cams were so easy to hot rod,that was a big part of their demise. And yes it would eventually eat the injector lobe off the cam,from the higher fuel pressures. Took 800k miles on mine,before my self inflicted stupidity did it. They had adjustable injectors,which were set with an inch lb. torque wrench. Factory setting on an old 335 was 48 inch lbs. Then later they went to 60 inch lbs.,let less fuel in each bite. Then Cummins said tighten to 72 inch lbs. trying to eliminate a little smoke and camshaft issues,I believe. The tighter the injector adjustment,less fuel injected per rocker stroke. Big Cams came out with top stop injectors,pre set,so you couldn't monkey with them. They also had the aneroid (hemorroid) built into the PT pump,which made that harder to fool with. You have to remember,these old engines were all mechanical,no electronics,computers,or anything close. These engines got terrible fuel mileage,smoked like a train,but who gave a hoot,fuel didn't cost anything back then,life was good. 4 miles to the gallon,and live with it. But they would run!

    And you could tangle with a 1693 Kitty on a hill if you felt like it,lol.
