If a police officer is sitting in their car and waiting on a “ping” from their laptop to inform them that a red light was run is illegal. By law the officer has to see the alleged incident take place and not by a video.

After red light cams were struck down this pilot program is what replaces it.
Same difference as a picture w the driver and vehicle/plate visible, except this is live and not after the fact.
The offender is stopped and given a chance to view the video and issued a ticket. This meets state statutes.
In Minnesota pilot project, cameras will be watching for red-light runners

When you go to court to contest the ticket, you ask the officer if he actually saw you run the red light. He have to say no. Then you ask who saw me run the red light? The officer will have to say a camera took a picture. Tell the court that you want to question your accuser which will be the camera due to your constitutional rights. Since that will be impossible to do the ticket should be dismissed.

In my experience, traffic court judges hate their jobs, want nothing more than to get their dockets clear as soon as possible, and aren’t about to tolerate any accused red light runner with intentions of doing anything other than shut up, plead guilty and pay your fine on the way out.

I’ll fight the ticket. A few years ago a lady pulled out in front of me and I could not stop. I hit her vehicle. We both pulled over. Police were called. The police officer question myself, the lady driver and her teenage son. They claimed I was speeding and hit them from behind. The police officer said he could see not deception in her son when he questioned him. The officer said I kept changing my story.
I received a citation for “Failure to Control Speed.” I went to court. I questioned the police officer as to what special classes he has attended to tell if people were deceptive. The officer answered none. I asked him if he saw the accident occur. He answered no. I asked him if any witnesses were present when the accident occurred. He said the son was. I asked if the son was present at this hearing. The City Attorney answered no. I got the ticket and accident expunged from my record.
