I had my May Company entry level road test today. ~11.5 miles on the road and backing skills (45 to the dock). There were four of us at 8:00am. I went first, struggled a bit with a beat Pete transmission that shifted hard, but worked it and passed. After I did my backing skills and walked away with a pass, the other guys asked for tips and advice, which I gladly shared. By 10:00am, I was the only driver left. The other three didn't pass for one reason or another. My advice to them was Get Out And Look! Just like the big yellow banner at the back of the yard says. Not one of them got out and looked. Two hit barrels backing, one performed a dangerous turn on his road trip. What do you "old timers" have to say about "GOAL"??
Glad I made it through, May looks to be a great fit for my family life!

GOAL...Yeah, I cheat, I drive a day cab with a flat bed. Being able to look out the back window sure is nice, especially an offside back.

Once you get a feel for your truck and trailer you don't need to GOAL as much, but if you have ANY question in your mind as to how close to something or where you are aiming or ANYTHING WHAT-SO-EVER!!!!! G O A L !!!!
I've been driving 12 years and still need to GOAL multiple times sometimes. -
I ran with May from 2002-2005. They are strict with their road test. Is the safety guy with the beard ( I forget his name) still doing the tests? Also, does May still deduct from a driver's pay if he idles more than 30%, and do they have APU's now? When they started the idle pay deduction, it was the final straw for me.

Training seems to be going well, so far. It took nearly a week to get on the road, and I've been able to drive about 1200 miles so far. I'm on the Phoenix/LA loop, so miles are limited. About the biggest lesson learned so far has been that a fully loaded truck is a lot different than an empty.
