Should I become a trucker? I want to get out of my parents place fast, I'm cool with alone time, I like driving, I'm 18, I can't drive a stick in even a car but I've never really tried, and I'm completely ready for a change. I'm in college, but I'm sure "the office" isn't for me.

    .
Based on the rules and regs of driving.

You're going to be living with your parents, for some time yet.

Dig a little deeper. Familiarize yourself with the industry and it's rules.

You'll also want to check out company restrictions on hiring ages. These are caused by the limitations placed on them by insurance companies.

you have to wait a few years to drive a big truck. join the service, i recommend the air force or the navy. is living with your parents really that bad?

Good advice , you can also look into driving while in the military but most definiatly spend this time to do way more research because the driver mills feed on desperate people. BESIDES YOUR PARENTS LOVE YOU DRIVER MILLS DON'T. Stay safe wish you the best

Continue to go to school...and get a part time or intern job at a trucking company. At 18 you can get your CDL, but will only be able to drive in your own state. That is ok, you will already have that step done. By the time you turn 21, you will already have 2-3 yrs experience. That in itself is a big issue.

Yeah I got my Intrastate CDL at 18 in Illinois, I think most states are the same.

I started driving a 6 wheeler box truck hauling newspapers at 17, moved up to a 10 wheeler a bit later and then on to a big truck at 20. Alot of trucking companies wont really consider your time in the smaller trucks as experience, but every little bit helps.
