While at Interstate Distributors, I saw our max speed drop from 72 (at least in my truck) down to 68, then 63mph. I took 5 months off to get into shape (best thing I've ever done for myself) and now Interstate says they're too slow (no pun intended!) to rehire me.

So, I'm looking for advice on companies hiring drivers that still do at least 68mph, and better yet, 70+mph. I prefer western 11 but I'll run 48 to make money, just not at 60-63 mph! About me: 12yrs OTR exp., dry and reefer divisions. Clean MVR, and it's not been easy finding a job. So much for the good 'ol days, eh?

Yes, them good old days. After thirty years of driving I look back on those good old days. Driving 36 hours straight in a 92 MPH truck and being dispatched by a 100 MPH dispatcher. Stopping to use pay phones at rest areas and trucks stops for dispatch or get directions. Calling back every hour for a load because their was no cell phones or OBC's. Running 4 to 6 thousand miles solo a week in a cabover. Setting all weekend waiting for a load that was supposed to be ready on Friday when you ran from NY to LA with only 5 hours of sleep.

And now to just pick up a cell phone and call dispatch, getting paid to wait, getting home every week, driving a 65 MPH truck, running legal at all times, getting 7 to 8 hours sleep every night and making more money then I ever thought you could driving a truck. Dam@ I miss the good old days.

Very few companies are running faster the 70+ anymore these seems everybody is cut down to 65 or slower. The ones that are running faster are owner operator or your smaller Refer companies im in a company truck that does 75 but where not hiring right now. I myself kind of looking for a slow truck im sick off having too pass everybody on the highway. Good luck in your job hunt.

Your 'good old days' weren't so good, were they? I never drove for anyone that pushed me that hard. Common sense has kept me safe on the road. Cell phones, Sat radio and other modern-day goodies make life on the road a lot better, though.

Yep. I'm in the same boat. I used to run for 18-24mo's, then take 3-5 months off in the summer to enjoy fishing and travel. A job was always waiting for me when I got back. Those are what I refer to as the "good 'ol days".

At least you have the option of travelling slower if you dont want to pass everyone! :biggrin_25519:

I miss the days of runnin' 90 mph and goin' all the way accross and back in 7 days. It was a blast. Beat myself silly, but it was fun.

As for Interstate; I applied with them today. I have many years with a clean MVR and DAC, and they told me no way. They said I had to have 12 months current with a company with at least 300 trucks, and because I worked for small companies, they wouldn't even look at me. They said they did research and drivers that worked for small companies quit with IDC after a short while. Oh well, I laughed and told the gentleman to have a great day. I don't think I'm big company material anyways.

Try Giltner out of Jerome, ID or Dynamic Transit out of missouri they both use to be 70+ mph. I to will not hook up with a company that is 65 or slower for my own sanity and safety nothing worse than not being able to keep up with the flow of traffic.

There are quite a few Tanker Co. out there hiring. But your not going to get a " fast " truck with them, ( well maybe Indian River ) but you Will make a good living.
But today who really wants to go fast anyway. Fuel costs, Maintenance costs, Cops over every hill. Me I'm an O/O and I can go as fast as I want too, And 99.5% of the time I'm going 65 or a little less. Less stress an strain and you will get there almost as fast as the guy going 70 +. The times are a changing and you have to change with them.
But I like some of the other, ah Lets say more seasoned drivers lol, I remember the " good old day's " 1000 + miles a day. Hanging on a pay phone in the cold and rain, No GPS, No Cells, No laptops, No E-Mail, No Sat.radio, No cruise control, No air ride. Cluck Cluck get out the way of my chicken truck. Cobra 29, tweety bird echo box, 150 watt 2 pill. Ah those were the day's.
