Volvo's might be nice, but I'll retire before the day comes I can't stare at a dash like this!
I like my trucks to look and feel like trucks.
And yes, I have tried new Volvo's. They are quiet, ride and handle like a marshmallow and have lots of room. But again, I like driving truck.....not a truck that feels like a car.
So I wouldn't say they are better, but as long as Volvo drivers are happy, that's all that matters.![]()

Why are Volvos so much better than all other Class 8 trucks?

Staring at a dash like that could cause distracted driving
Maybe you should trade vocations and become an airline pilot. -
I just don't like the new trend of removing gauges and going to an electronic display you have to toggle through. I can immediately see if I am having an issue, having a gauge for everything.
But then again, these new trucks will pretty much shut down any time something goes amiss anyway, LOL.
And I never liked the symbols Volvo uses on their switches. I found myself guessing what the switches were for.
Old school just doesn't die in many of us, LOL.Rubber duck kw, stillwurkin, Scooter Jones and 1 other person Thank this. -
If I ever had to fly a plane Scooter, I would make the news.....and not in a good way! LOL!
I couldn't fly a paper airplane.Scooter Jones Thanks this. -
For what it's worth, I like the Western Star, old Mack Pinnacle, and Prostar dashes. I haven't tried the new Volvo dash, butt the old one was completely functional, well designed ...and not much to look at.
And Star4900, it's funny that actual old school 60's and 70's truck had half as many gauges and switches as your beastie. Looks nice though.MartinFromBC Thanks this. -
The thing is that an electronic display can be configured to show you everything you need to know for going down the road. Any rarely used gauges you can toggle through. For example, if you're only being loaded once every few days, do you need a suspension pressure gauge on the dash? That would be a different story in a dump truck.
Anyway, you can add a few extra gauges in pretty much every truck. It's all the same information - just how you access it. -
The volvo just screams “new breed” I just can’t get past that...I’d sooner clean bathrooms at Wally World then drive a new breed aero truck I don’t care what the job pays...
and while we’re at it keep your elogs too...adayrider, Rubber duck kw and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
"New breed"? LOL. Good Lord, man. Relax, a truck is a tool, an inanimate object, nothing more, nothing less.
-
Because the Volvo conventional cab design was jointly between White, GMC, and or Freightliner, western star. And the COE I think is the same for American trucks. So Volvo still uses the same cab design and you are pretty much driving a GMC.

I am relaxed..
You have your opinions I have mine.Bean Jr. Thanks this.
