This is probably going to hurt the pork industry more than any US citizens. The virus is actually called the H1M1 virus and I've heard theres no proof that its actually been spread from a pig to a human. I think they're just hyping it the way they hype everything. Thousands of people die of the flu every year.

That's exactly right, Pat. It's amazing the way they conveniently forget the little details like that. I could be wrong, but, doesn't the normal strains of flu kill like 400 to 500K every year world wide?

Normal flu kills folks with weak immune systems, like the elderly and young children. The reason this flu is different is because it kills healthy young adults with strong immune systems. Because we have no natural immunity to this new strain it sets the immune system into overdrive and causes what's called a "cytokine storm" which causes the lungs to fill with fluid - killing the victim with dry-land drowning.
This is a variant of the flu that caused the 1918 pandemic. That flu (which was also a strain of H1N1) killed millions of people world wide - it hit the young men going to fight in WWI especially hard.
Yes, we normally lose around 30,000 people to the flu each year, but in the two years of the Spanish Influenza pandemic (1918-1920) 50 MILLION Americans died from the flu. That's why everyone is buzzing about this one.
And you are right, we don't have any proof that it was spread from a pig, but it does contain genetic markers from swine, avian, and human flu strains.

This flu is going to turn out to be a complete waste of time and money. It is a weak stain to start with and is becoming weaker as it spreads. The media is blowing it way out of proportion and will drop it in a few days when it has not killed as many as they would like to keep story alive. The Gov is just using it as a training exercise for a real event. IMO

Depending on who you listen to. The deaths range from 9 to an excess of 2000 in Mexico alone.

    WHO says there are 9.

Mexican Government Officials say 150 +/-

Mexican doctors say over 2000 and climbing fast.

The numbers in the US ballooned 400% within 6 hours. While the number remains quiet low. I don't think it's anything to sneeze about, since I'm typically on the road about 75% of my week.

I take "regular" flu and a serious cold very serious at my age.

was told today that a place i regularly deliver to in sc will not let me out of my truck after i check in because of this. they are only doing it to drivers that are coming from states that supposedly have confirmed cases.

and i know of another driver that is dealing with the same thing for another delivery out of the same warehouse. he cant even get loaded because of a stop that doesnt want their product even though none of it originates from this state we are in.
