Mine is even gravier, because I was told to drop it in Cartersville.

It was that load where finally got the hang of shifting again. I was missing and grinding gears all the way from the house to Columbus then to Orrville and all the way down to 285. I get on 285 in traffic and something in my head said "You better figure out how to shift that mother####er right now or you're gonna die.". ..and I finally got the hang of it again.

That kind of work has quite a few downsides. I had to do it from time to time at my last company and I knew another driver who did it full time with a company who just did that work.

Wait times to get loaded at the source of your product. Wait times to get unloaded at your destination if other trucks are in front of you. Outside in the elements ALL OF THE TIME, clogged lines that you have to unclog, customers who do not know how full their silos are until you top it out and it starts blowing all over you. Customers who do know how full their silos are and you have to blow some into one, tear everything down, move and set back up to blow the rest in. You are constantly dirty and filthy which will be transferred into your personal vehicle and home to a lesser degree. That about covers the biggies and I would never do it again.

Yep, that about sums up the ole pneumatic tanker job. I also will never go back to doing that again.

Hey I do have a question for you since you've chimed in:. Why is it that you don't see that many powder pushers parked at truck stops? Is it because they're home, parked elsewhere, or are they still at the silo waiting for their load to finish?

No clue. When I was doing dry van I never paid attention to how many bulk guys were on the road/in truck stops. Now that I'm running that I pay more attention so I know there are enough guys running sleepers and they have to be parking somewhere but couldn't tell you where that somewhere is because I don't park in truck stops either.

Perhaps they are doing mostly out and back even though they are in a sleeper. In my case I'm in a day cab so when I'm not making it back I'm bouncing from hotel to hotel to do my 10s

Sorry, can't really help with that one.

The job I'm.looking at is out and back runs in a sleeper cab but they're only getting you home on the weekends and they said occasionally through the week. So they have to be sleeping somewhere. I've actually been looking for those trailers in truck stops at night now and they're rare even though it seems like I see more sleeper cabs pulling pneumatics than liquid tankers in the road. So they're out there, but wtf are they hiding at night?
