Every state is different, but in California you could apply to have the DUI expunged off your record if it was over 13 years old, but only if you did it BEFORE you applied for the CDL permit. See if you can do that before you start school.
Different people will tell you different things about omitting that old DUI from your applications. My husband was left with one old DUI that he did put on his applications, and that did keep him from a few companies. Some people have written on here that they omitted some very old things, got hired, and then got fired several months down the road when the employer found out.
DUI...long ago. Still matters?

Thanks for all the feedback. It's against my nature to lie, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot either. It occurred such a long time ago. I'll probably just omit it on my application and risk the consequences.

I know people with; prison time, multipal DUI's, numerious misdeminors....and they drive?
BUT, that was "back in the day"

Have a good day !~ -
It's as simple as this. You answer all questions truthfully and you might get reject by a couple. You lie and then the company finds out ( and most do ) you'll be rejected by all. I don't care if some drivers were lucky and got through if you get caught lying on a job application or whatever you're done PERIOD FOREVER.
wilburleft and Tran Man Thank this. -
here's my 2 cents worth
my last dui was 18 years old when i started school, i was always honest and disclosed it on all my applications. it never kept me from getting hired, although it did keep me from going to canada.
i would suggest that "honesty is the best policy" -
Interesting thread.... some good info here!
My question: Dont the companies get the same MVR & Criminal History that is available to the applicant?
For instance & much like the OP - I got a dui 24 yrs ago and had my license suspended for 6 months.
I just now got a copy of my Indiana MVR and it has nothing on it whatsoever. I havent gotten my Criminal History yet, but if it is clean, I would think I would be safe not including this info on my app. What do y'all think? (I am no lawyer, dont know what if a dui is on a criminal history or what, but that would be the only thing on it if so.)
I learned my lesson when I was 21, havent drank for years now, no other tickets or anything, period. I must say this past mistake still has me worried tho! What do ya all think? -
Gas hauler is right. Honesty is always the best policy with regard to applying for a job. -
A guy faxed me his USIS report today, it had every charge, whether convicted or not, and every traffic ticket he had dating back to 1984.
Another piece of information that might help. Let's say you were charged for selling cocaine in 1990 but the charges were dropped for whatever reason. NO CONVICTION! YAY! However, that charge is still on your record for all the trucking companies to see. Do you think many of these companies will hire you knowing that you were charged with selling cocaine? -
I got a friend who had a dui 15 years ago and she just got hired by crst

Kevin, did your friend put the dui on her job applicatoin?
