Well i got tired of waiting on the flatbed companies and went with a sure bet a small reefer outfit close to the house (B&G supply in albertville al.) they hired me today and i'll be with a trainer by sunday its a small co with only about 80 units

    pros
-good equipment(newer volvos and newer trailers)
-out 3 days max-all loads leave from the albertville area and all pickups return to albertville
    -good insurance
-never give a deadline thats hard to meet
    -terminal 5 miles from home
    -benifits take affect quickly (insurance,vacation,etc)
-pretty easy to meet req for safety bonus dont know how hard the fuel bonus is to hit its 6mpg

    cons
    -average pay
    -no riders
    -its a grocery warehouse
-lower miles this time of year(which for a newbie like me might be good to learn the ropes)

i will try to keep y'all updated here to show what its like for a newbie to start out with a smaller company so the folks coming out of school will see you dont have to start out with the "mega carriers"

btw most of the tractors and trailers have have the singles on the drive and trailer wheels whats the pros/cons of these (super singles?)

    wish me luck

Actually working for the grocery warehouse may not be that bad of a deal. It's delivering to them that bites.

well got back off my first trip with my trainer last night. the best thing he did was was tell me " forget everything you learned in school" then he started at the very basics and taught me the way things have to be done not the way you do things to pass your test.

we went to new jersey with a load of chicken ,then to jessup md for a load of sugar, and back to the warehouse now we leave sunday for the same run (this is his regular run i will be running different places)

i will say i learned more in 3 days with him than i did in a month of school. from what i hear talking to many drivers is that there is not to much to dislke about this company. i'm having a blast

Low miles as a rookie is the last thing you want. you don't get paid much per mile and wharehouse do suck to deliver to.

Well im going to bring back a dead horse, but I just started with this company, and they seem like a pretty good little outfit. I had one driver tell me, if you are not happy here, you are a hard person to please. Dispatched tonight.
