I just sold my truck to a private party.
Has anyone succeeded in getting a refund for the unused portion of their paid FHUT?
I figure I've got $137.50 due back if I file for the refund.
An aside: There must be millions of un refunded overlap money every year. Where's it go to?
FHUT refund form 8849

I believe the refund can only happen if the vehicle is totaled. You can transfer to another vehicle.

I never got a refund, per say. But they did apply the balance over to my new truck.

Update: I used Express Truck Tax to go after the refund. IRS accepted the 8849 (whatever that's worth).
Still waiting. -
