How many of you OTR drivers kick your shoes off when driving and just wear socks?
When I started driving, I used to wear soft soled shoes. (not running shoes, but kind of a rip off of racing shoes). The thought of walking around in a parking lot and tracking traces of pee/poop into the truck has sparked me to drive in sock feet at all times now. I know a lot of other truckers that drive in sock feet too. When I climb into my cab, my shoes don't even touch the carpet, and instead they get tucked into the space between my drivers seat and my door. My shoes never touch the pedals.
How many other drivers do this? I have found I'm not as fatigued at the end of a day. Its like I've been hanging out in my living room on a sunday morning. I find my legs aren't as sore either (probably improved circulation).
I usually drive for 2 to 3 full days between loading and unloading so I just don't see the point in wearing shoes in my truck. Its my apartment!

Nope, couldn't do it, not even a little bit. Granted, I own one pair of sneakers that are 5 years old and have worn them about 3 times. Boots with hard soles. Sandals? Do I look like an apostle?

I simply have to wear shoes when I drive, even in my car. I've tried it without shoes and it just feels *wrong*. Plus it makes my heel sore and my toe muscles hurt. Dunno why.
In the truck I always wore work boots of some sort while driving....something about the heavier shoe seemed to reduce any foot/ankle stiffness. I always took my shoes off before I went past the sleeper curtain; that was always the "barefoot" zone. And about once a week I'd sweep & disinfect the floor up front. -
I look at it this way. If you have to jump out of the truck for some reason. How fast can you do it in your socks? I wear shoes in the drivers set. Thats my office. Shoes don't go past there. The sleeper is my house. Besides you are driving a 40 ton truck on the hi way. Not you car on the block. kick back and relax AFTER your day is done.

I always keep my shoes on while driving but, always take them off before going into the sleeper.

A few months back a weight station was checking drivers to see if they was wearing shoes and had their seat belts on. They was writing tickets for both. -
