I know the shop that installed my new exp valve and accumulator dryer and ive never seen them not pull a vacuum and leak check. First time for everything but I feel pretty confident.

Well if you had work done at a shop take it back in there. It shouldn’t be freezing up.
In the mean time check the evaporator. You can also try to bleed a little bit of freon on the low side, if air comes out you have a leak somewhere.
Worst case scenario there is a small blockage in the lines

At least you can turn it off, let it thaw and turn it on again. Either a temp sensor, as mentioned or maybe ice is forming in expansion valve, because they didn’t pull a vacuum.

I wonder if they actually changed the dryer. I've seen almost zero systems work like new if the dryer doesn't get changed every time the system is cracked open. If there is any air moisture in the system it will freeze and block the expansion valve and cooling goes down hill fast.
If that happens the compressor should be kicking off on Hi Pressure safety switch.

I'd definitely check that temp sensor in the evaporator box in the dash as well.

I think sometimes shops get in a hurry and skip some of the more aggravating possibilities just to get the thing out the door and on to the next project.

theres beads inside of the dryer that collect moisture. if the system was left open. the beads could have gotten soaked.

I'm wondering if they even evac'ed the system and bring it down to a steady vacuum. Had a shop in Utah just replace a condenser and dryer, they didn't put a vacuum on and the thing never cooled right. Got it back here and has a a/c tech from one of the shops look at it, he replace the dryer, out a vacuum on it for 30 and the charged it up, like a brand new truck,

    Rideandrepair and truckdriver31 Thank this.
