Well, I'm officially a "voluntary quit" from Werner. Haven't even bothered calling them in the last week. I got tired of hearing that I need to be on a team truck. Not what I had in mind. I did find a local company that is hiring students. They are a reefer outfit about 25 miles from me. I had done some HVAC work at their place about 6 years ago and didn't remember them until someone jogged my memory. The starting pay is higher than Werners, benifits about the same, and they run mostly east of the Mississippi. They are a small outfit, about 91 trucks. I would much rather work for a smaller company anyway. Hopefully something good comes out of it...running out of options.

We had drivers in our orientation at werner that had just left other companies and were required to do 10 days out with a trainer. Don't know about other places.

this is what you start out at. everyone does. sdm's and recruiting will lie to you. only dedicated fleets start higher. and some start lower...
that is actually really disgusting. I'm assuming you are exaggerating a little bit... but even still. this is not a very good trainer. i just took my first shower since Monday, and it was the first time I've had to wait so long, and hopefully the last (got stuck on a refused load). also, the new werner policy is to be completely non-smoking... -
No, not exaggerating. We ran hard to make him money. And if, going by what were told in orientation, 60% of truck drivers smoke, they are going to lose alot of people if they go smoke free.
-
How is it going? I'm considering taking Werner up on their offer - it would be at Fontana...
-
I don't think the trucks are going to go smoke free. But the hotel rooms near the terminals are, unless you want to pay for the room.
I know if Werner makes all their trucks smoke-free... he's gone... without a doubt.
