Truck Fire I-40 Raleigh

Raleigh, N.C. ' Traffic backed up on Interstate 40 westbound Monday as firefighters worked to control a tractor-trailer fire near Gorman Street.
All westbound lanes were closed at milemarker 296 while emergency personnel dealt with the blaze. The truck driver, who was trapped in the cab, died in the fire, Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.
The state Department of Transportation advised motorists to avoid the area, and predicted the lanes would remain closed into the afternoon.
Thick black smoke billowed from the fire and could be seen for miles around.
