Any tanker jobs with no experience out there ?

    I am just north of Indianapolis 1 hour , and there was a ad for a few jobs in the area.
    They say 2 years experience or graduated from accredited school.
    So do you know if I could get a driving job right out of school ?
    Did you like working there ?
    Why did you quit ?
    What type of pay ? and hours ?
    I read some stories on Gemini trucking is that who you worked for ?
    Any info you care to share would be great !
    I seen on here a lot of drivers didn't care for their managers or whatever, how do you feel about the company ?

    Yes you can get the driving job out of school. It totally depends on the RM in that area.

    No I didn't like it, but I wasn't hauling fuel.

    Quit because the the former RM got promoted by his cousin. And the he promoted his buddy to RM. The guy was a former driver that kissed alot of but. And he was horrible at managing, but he was invincible because his buddy was his supervisor.

    Pay varies, but its $58k-$65k depending on the area. Plus a $10k bonus after 5yrs. Its typically 10-12hrs but could be longer sometimes.

    Yes I drove for Gemini aka Loves.

    Gemini is still fairly young in transportation. But the office personnel in okc dont seem to know much about logistics. And I'm speaking from the crude side. Because LPG fell under crude division. But when the oilfield went down in 2015-16. They hot rid of ppl with experience, then hired ppl that were clueless in 2017. But overall they got into the industry in 2011 or 12. Because it was booming then. But the ppl that came on the were learning it. So to get rid of them and hire ppl with no experience of crude oil industry or LPG was quite dumb. But I would here while employed that alot of the RM's were the same way (arseholes). So loves has ran off alot of good drivers because of managers attitudes and etc.

    Foodliner and questliner are our food grade and hazmat divisions. Both pay well but have different pay structures to suit the work.

    I do questliner hazmat. For me thats usually open appointments and wearing a chemsuit often it can be longer runs.

    Foodliner, no hazmat or suits, tighter scheduling over shorter distances. Not always mind you... but usually.

    Foodliner typically makes more cpm than i do... and they proba ly sit in lines more often than i do.

    Take home pay... about the same in the end. LOL. That never made sense to me. Anyways, both are good places and pay well. But like most of trucking, it all depends where you live as to how good the runs are for you personally.

    I dont know anybody thats a go getter making less than 65k some a lot more...

    I dont live in the truck and dont want to. Home most nights and most weekends. 70k.
    Again thats in my little slice of heaven. Some make 80k and i assume a few in the 60k range.

    We get paid to drive, sit, throw hoses, load, unload, detention, plus quarterly and annual bonuses, 401k, healthcare, etc.

    Its a good job. Daycab and sleeper trucks.
    We have a pilot program where they will take a few students from accredited schools and send you with a trainer for 6-8 weeks. Not team driving. A real training program with a real trainer sitting beside you to get your feet wet, get your confidence up and get you started on a real career.

    It seems ridiculously expensive to me. But they are doing it. And i have run with one of the guys. He's good. I have no problems with him. Had my doubts mind you... lol but he is good and doing excellent

    I noticed Gemni has a CDL sleeper driver position open in MS, from what understand it to haul Bio-Fuel. Do you have any ideal what kind of pay scale this position has?

    Do you know if they have a terminal in Indiana like maybe Indianapolis , Foodliner website says they hire newbies and train them.

    They do or did. I would call recruiting and see whats available. Depending on your specific location you may be able to be attatched to a terminal remotely.

    Meaning you live very close to one our customers, you can potentially be dedicated on a route. Not have to start and finish at the terminal but at a load or unload point.

    So... call them and see what is potentially available.

    What kind of routes and home time do they have ? Any chance of getting a dedicated route and home everyday ?

    There is always a chance. Its very location specific.
    Of the 10-12 guys i work with half are home every night. Some work a weekend either a saturday or sunday every other week.

    I am out 1-2 nights weekly and have had just about all weekends off for a long time. Our weekends off are real weekends btw. Get home friday and see you monday morning...lol not the typical in at 11pm friday and leave out at 9 am sunday. Thats not a weekend.

    This week monday i did a medium load to minnesota.
    Tuesday wednesday thursday went to canada.
    Friday saturday was in ohio.
    Home sunday monday

    Working through the 4th and weekend...

    Then off for a few weeks vacation goin up to the arctic ocean.

    My buddy... same terminal... he works 6 days a week plus any recap and i havent seen him in several months. He makes more than me. LOL. I am not that guy. I love the work and people... but do not list my truck as my home address. :confused:

    Like all of trucking its location location location... whats available and if it fits you like a glove.

    These guys try to keep you matched with your reasonable expectations. You will not hire on and cherry-pick the gravy runs.

    But if you want closer to home they will try ro keep you close. That doesnt mean you wont get tagged to fill in on a long one here or there. Most of our trucks have sleepers for a reason.

    I drive one of those.

    3 of the ones where i work are daycabs. I am not interested. They are too limiting.

    I can always snag a longer run or farm out to another terminal in a slowdown, like the loadpoint breaksdown. I keep rolling.
    Daycabs likely lose a day of pay being told to stay home we will call you when they are back up loading.

    Doesnt happen often but yes, a few times a year a pump needs replaced, processing breaks down... etc.

    Sleeper trucks just shag over to another terminal and never miss a load. To me, i like that flexibility.

    Anyways... thats about all i can tell you... i have worked out of chicago, 2 other iowa plants from mine, washington indianna twice... been thru terra haute a dozen times. Never been to the indianapolis place. (Morris i think). But they all seem to operate about the same... show up, get your truck, snatch a preload or else grab an empty and boogie boogie.

    Single best part of this company... they dont babysit. Sometimes i have good communication with my manager as to whats next... and sometimes i have better communication.... he gives me a weeks worth of work... and i say i'll ring you next week and i seriously dont hear from him again... perfect. LOL:)
