Axle weight question.

Legal. You're allowed 20K on a single axle. Spread axles are considered 2 single axles, thus 20K per which is 40K. If there is an imbalance in the weight those axles are actually carrying, your limit is reached when the heavier of the axles hits 20K, which will be less than 40K.

 

I would assume legal, he didn’t mention permits or oversized.

Yep, that wasn't what I was getting at though. I was thinkin permitted axle weights. Like ohio when you permit for weight say on three axles you can go as high as 25000 on an axle in that three axle group as long as you don't exceed the 60000 lb limit. Example----- axle 1- 16000 lbs, #2 -22000 lbs, #3- 22000 lbs or any variation of weight as long as you don't exceed 25000 lbs on an axle.

 

It will increase what you put on the tandems in Canada only I think it's 37k or 38k. Keep in mind Manatoba doesn't recognize a 10'2" spread that is considered 1 axle at 20k!

 

That’s the kicker with a 10’ spread, they are no longer a group. They are two singles so you are limited to the single axle weights. Tandems work better for over weight load, doesn’t make sense but that’s the law.

I think I need to sit with Manitoba and drink with them with numbers on napkins until I am either under the table or they agree two times 20K = 40K.... eh?

 

Ive ran it 21k on the front 19 on the back more than once. Nobody ever say anything to me , maybe i get lucky,i new it was not legal thats the point , but in my experience if its undergross for tandems they never said anything to me, maybe ive just been lucky or dot buddy couldnt add up numbers quick enough before i got passed that green light n hammer down

 

Ive never heard that over 10ft spread is no longer consider a tandem
