@Steelersjunkie
At the TA in Pembroke, NY. Happened to get into a conversation with a guy driving for The Rolling Stones tour as an O/O.
He and another driver are here waiting to meet two other drivers bring gear down from a show in Canada. Then they were heading to Boston with those trailers for a future show and then bobtailing down to Maryland to pick up trailers from a show that will be over with by that time. Said they are doing a lot of running because of a tight schedule always keep leep frogging.
He said he does not have a wife and kids and thought he'd give it a try. Said it was his first tour. Out 3 months straight. Liked it so far.Last edited: Jun 30, 2019
Farmer54 and Steelersjunkie Thank this. -
Ugh IT work. Did UNIX/Linux and network administration and network engineering for 20 years. Loved it back in the halcyon days of the internet when anybody that was smart enough to help make it all work was treated like a rock star. Helped to keep what was then one of the biggest IP networks in the country running but spent the majority of those years working for a smaller company that operated contact centers but always fancied itself being a telecom startup that never figured out how to make that happen. They went bankrupt in 2017 and I found myself unsure of what I wanted to do. Packed up everything and moved back to my home state and after having a couple of tech job leads there dead end, decided to go get my CDL back and drive for awhile while I got some certifications that might make me more marketable. But every time I even think about logging into a Cisco router I get a little twitchy and nauseous. So I don't think I'll be going back to that unless a really good (paying) opportunity presents itself. Got a call from a recruiter a couple of weeks ago pitching a job to me where the client needs help either fixing or completely rebuilding the network for a very large airport on the east coast. I had to pass. I complain but at this point in my life, the flavor of ######## that trucking serves up is a sweeter flavor of it than what the IT world was serving me. Haven't figured out yet where my exact place is in trucking but I am gonna probably be here until I retire.

I think I'd love it. Problem is I think I'd love it too much. Wife is still supportive of the idea but I'm gonna go with option 1. Starting for my new company in about a week.JOHNQPUBLIC Thanks this.

Alright, I guess that'll do, ID checks out
Who the F is that ugly guy on your right? Jesus he dam near broke the screen on my phone.

You know... I think the biggest problem I would have with doing that other thing is... I have a LOT of opinions when it comes to music, and I have a hard time keeping them to myself. It would take just one tour where I had to work for someone I cannot stand like Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line, or the Butcher Babies before I got blacklisted.Steelersjunkie Thanks this.

Totally feel you on that. Not a country fan at all, at least modern country. It's garbage. But an entire venue packed to the gills with women in daisy dukes and cowboy hats would ease my pain pretty quick.Last edited: Jun 30, 2019
dwells40 Thanks this. -
Yeah modern "bro country" is pure crap. Even the chicks in daisy dukes wouldn't make it any better for me, because I'd be too busy judging them for liking that garbage. Give me a venue full of goth chicks with winged eyeliner and fishnets instead.Steelersjunkie Thanks this.

####, we brothers or something! Yep IT folks used to be the ####, now we’re just ####. I don’t miss it man but the cool thing is I know how to get around and exploit those public WiFi servers to my benefit. Tip for those who are not in the biz, DO NOT do personal transactions on a public WiFi access point. I can lock that access point down and have all the bandwidth to myself. Mind you, I don’t do it but I can. I can also see your “secure” transactions if I want to. Please please for your financial safety, don’t do public WiFi.
I don’t know @Gremlin304 , I kinda miss it but I don’t. The stress in trucking is nothing compared to IT.
