Howdy guys, I'm new to az and I was hoping to get some inside info about driving for Albertsons in tolleson. I've been driving for 7 years and the job market out here seems to suck for local work, Stuck working nights and weekends if you want more than minimum wage and I'd rather make a better wage if I'm never gonna have a life, I did a temporary stint at Fry's and the job was great except I only got to work 2 days a week and that doesn't pay bills so I'm hoping to get in touch with some drivers at albertson's to see how they like it and how it is for the new guys. I've got steady work at the moment but I'm not a fan of it and I'm hoping to get with Albertsons maybe early next year as long as I can work more than 2 days a week haha.

To walk in off the street and get full time and big $$$ ain't happening. Plan on doing the "extra board" for starters, then working your way up. Even then, you'll be doing nights/weekends/holidays

I was expecting extra board just wondering if I'd have to live with my mother or if I'd actually work enough hours to make a living and how long it takes to get on days, weekends arent as big of a deal to me as days. I would've stayed at Fry's if I got 5 full days of work but bills don't pay themselves.

What is an acceptable wage to you. Craigslist is loaded with ads with local work from $19 an hour on up. Ruan had a Monday through Friday gig for $21.76. 50-60 hours a week.

Unfortunately I can't work for Ruan till the winter because of the temp contract I had at Fry's I have to wait 6 months after I resigned, I did call them and ask as I knew about it hauling that copper concentrate. I am currently making about $1400 a week but I will work nights till I die here. I want to work for Albertson's as I know what they are making in the long run and its not these peasant wages

Is this a fleet driver for Albertson's itself?...or for Safeway?

Albertson's owns many different companies. Safeway and Von's comes to mind.

Over in the Northeast, Albertson's owns ACME and they run it seperately as ACME Supermarkets. Their plant in Denver PA is the main distributor for the whole NE, running out the SuperValu plant ...where they also deliver to Safeway as well. Practically all grocery private fleets are union. ACME gets paid by trip rate, where they get paid by the load. Virtually identical to SuperValu. Free healthcare and $4 an hour severance pay. They got drivers making well over $100k. No touch freight...just back it in to the stores and they unload for you. Safeway...I think the drivers have to unload with a pallet jack or forklift.

Grocery fleets pay VERY good once you're at top scale...but union pay progression means low starting payrate and years to reach top rate. ACME takes 4-5 years to reach top rate. ShopRite/Wakefern takes 5 years...whether it's for Food Haulers or NTS...with the exception of JED, where they get paid by trip rate and start at top scale. Wegman's, you get a .50 cent raise every 6 month's...no cap. And they all practically make over $100k per year at top rate...at least they do in the NE. You'll also have to start of as a casual, floater or extraboard until you land a fulltime gig...which means being on call and working any shift. Safeway...you're guaranteed 1 day per week as a new driver. After that...you're on call the rest of the week. Keep that in mind...if you want to work for Albertson's.
