Just waiting to see what everyones going to do next. This started out like a runaway freight train about wanting to right wrongs, let's hope that it doesn't get stuck at the station and not get anywhere.

 

I have noticed that there is an unusual calm on here too..I am still working on things here with the state police. He did not call me today and I have been busy with my basement and yard becoming a lake, so Mid States has been on a small back burner for me. But tomorrow I will be on it again. Will report what I find out...

 

The calming effect : When people feel beatn because of the lack of help they have recieved to this point!! It also has been a month since the closeing, most of there anger has been spent,now comes the real struggle for those who have not found a job and there bills pile up!! They will start putting more effort in moving on for there families sake and to survive!!! I hope the effort put in at this point will not fizzle out but fear it will!!!
Keep up the good fight and help one another!! This is problably is the most REAL (TEAM WORK) I have ever witnessed out of Mid-States employee's so hold together!!!!

 

I contacted the Department of Labor about COBRA and the fact that we can't get it. It seems unfair that though we paid our premiums, but because Mid-States didn't pay them to the insurance company, COBRA treats us as not having insurance, so we're now not eligible for COBRA. If we were eligible for COBRA, the government would be paying 65% of the COBRA premium. Again, we get the runaround to call other numbers. Has anyone else run into not being able to get their COBRA?

 

I went to a community resources meeting last night in our local town to understand what is available to people who have lost their jobs. It was VERY informative. I have formal letters to send to creditors, mortgage lenders etc. and where to go if you need help in other areas. If there is anyone out here that is in trouble and does not know where to turn let me know. I am in Michigan, but may have an idea for you to use in your area. I heard some very creative things that Mortgage companies are doing for people to save their homes. One person's payment was over 800.00 and the bank was able to reduce the payment to 350.00 for a year until that person gets back on their feet with a new job. Under the new stimulus plan we were able to refinance our mortgage from 6% down to 4.875% saving us about 140.00 to use somewhere else. There are more and more things becoming available everyday. Who would know that we could refinance our home with neither of us having a job. But the new stimulus plan allows this. So if you or someone you know needs some resources contact me thru this site and maybe I have something from the class or some info to help you out thru this tough time.

 

Is anyone planning on going to the hearing on the 6th?

 

I wanted to go, but forgot that I have to watch my grandbabies Wednesday thru Saturday. If my daughter does cancel I would like to plan on going. What about the hearing for the WARN act. Is anyone going to go to that and can someone refresh me as to when it is? It would be nice if we could at least have someone from the employee group there.

 

Hubby got paper work for distribution for the MSE 401k plan. Apparently Andi is still working in payroll at the Aurora office for anyone interested...

Mid-States Associates:



On Wednesday May 6, 2009 the bankruptcy court ruled to convert the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing for Mid-States Express, Inc. to a Chapter 7 liquidation filing. This requires the appointment of a Trustee from the U.S. Trustee's office, in order to allow some time for this to happen and for the appointed trustee to be brought up to speed everything else was continued until May 13, 2009. We wish we could say a quick resolution is forthcoming regarding the wage issues, it appears this could take some time. Our bankruptcy attorneys were trying to work with the bank in seeking a fair settlement on these issues, however there was no real progress made. We understand that the trustee will now take control of these issues, it is our hope that everything possible will be done to make good on the owed wages as the bank benefitted from the receivables collected due to the efforts of the employees of Mid-States.

I went through a company bankruptcy back in 2002. I feel for you guys.

If you have COBRA through them, stay in contact with the insurance company. My company bounced a check for the cobra and we all lost the coverage and the insurance company declined to cover any of us on individual policies because of the insurance lapse.
