Volvos are good trucks from the outside and ride very well and the interrior is nicely set up. But the only reason i wouldt want to buy a volvo is cuz if theire notorious electrical issues. My friend has one and something is always wrong with the dam thing. LOL

As has been said here, several times, electrics in them is a b+tch. I have a friend that drives one and it has been a never ending battle with wiring and sensors..........:biggrin_25510:

Right, that's what I'm looking to buy right now...a Volvo VNL 780 with the roomy and quiet sleeper cab. But, I have the choice between the Cummins ISX motor and the Volvo Motor. Anybody out there have personal experience with choosing the various motor options Volvo has?

You could put a frog in a tutu and it's still going to be ugly. A Volvo is still going to be a Volvo no matter what engine you put in it.

I drove a Volvo not even a week when I used to be at CFI. It felt like steering a paper cup.

How the heck do you steer a paper clip might I ask.

I like the look of the volvo but I hate the fact that it has no side running lights on the cab. If I was looking to buy a New or slightly used truck it would either be a volvo or a prostar. Im leaning more towards a prostar because of the reliability issues with the volvo. As for motors, I wouldnt mind the mercedes but getting service for that engine is a nightmare along with your forking out for a tow any time a sensor goes bad. It would be nice if they had a better limp mode for these newer engines.

I would have to say the Cummins ISX is a great motor in a Volvo (or in any truck). I chose the Cummins over the Volvo motor because there are more Cummins shops out there than you can shake a stick at, and their pulling power is amazing. A 13 speed trans adds to that, and there are alot of 780's out there with this setup thanks to Raven out of Jacksonville, FL.

While I'm trying to figure out the "steering a paper cup" comment, I'd like to know what that meant - feel free to explain that to those who've never tried it. My rig has an air ride front axle and it steers, and rides, like a dream. What was CFI running, did they take care of them, and were they running decent rubber? (Mine is on Michelins)

As far as running lights, you can add those to anything with no time or trouble. Electrical trouble? Alot of trucks suffer from that - look at the problems with the new Freightliner Cascadia's. Alot of that comes down to the maintenance level - inspect the wiring and take care of any issues.

    hwypilot,

Raven runs the volvo engine with the RTLO16913A transmission. Their current trucks feature the new Volvo VED13 set at 485HP and a 9spd OD.

CFI is now Con-way Truckload. I believe they are phasing out their T600s for Cascadias and T660s. The Volvo was from their Con-way side while the merger was still taking place.

I guess metaphors are lost on you people. I didn't like driving the Volvo after coming off a KW. It didn't feel like a truck. It felt light and loose. Like a paper cup.

metaphors like steering like a dump truck or riding like a boat are understandable comparisons but a paperclip is :smt102
