I had a truck down in Walbridge, OH on Saturday, June 29, 2019. The bolt in the idler pulley broke off. I called Awesome Response out of Perrysburg, OH. They told me $1200.00 which I thought was a high estimate in case removing the bolt was time consuming. So, I said fine. The tech arrived, extracted the broken bolt and replaced the pulley. It took him 20 minutes. I was charged $1200.00. When I questioned it, he told me that I approved that amount before he went out. He sent me a copy of the receipt. It looked like a guest check that you get in a diner. All it had was my driver's name, the date and the amount. I asked him to break it down for me - service call, parts, hourly mechanic rate, etc. So, he did. He came back with extract bolt - $30.00. Fine. Part - $240.00. Ok. Credit card charge - $20.00. Reasonable. Dispatch - $210.00, Mechanic - $340.00 (for 20 minutes?) Use of equipment - $340.00 (again, for 20 minutes?) and tax - $20.00 for the grand total of $1200.00. Unbelievable and outrageous. I called the company on Monday morning and all I got was a bunch of fast talking bs. If you break down near Toledo, Ohio, call ANYONE and I mean ANYONE other than Awesome Response.

Lesson we all learned is never agree to price.

Also mobile mechanics most have minimum hours. So you can pay for the 20 minutes with 2 hours of labor.

1200 excessive for sure I would have put that job at $550 max. For 1 hour travel each way and 2 hours min. Plus parts

I needed a jump start when I left the yard last week. Should have had the batteries replaced then...but I figured they'd charge on the drive.

Did a run of about 500 miles and went to motel.
Went out to leave in the morn and nothing...
5am north of Waterloo, IA and could not find anyone to answer the phones for the 24 service/tow companies.
At 9 got a Cedar Rapids truck stop mobile unit to come up and jump the truck..$400 for the 2 minutes, and a 6 hr delay.
Kinda at the mercy of the service provider.

The guy drove over to where you were broke down and fixed your truck after you agreed to pay what he was asking for. $1200 was what his time was worth to him and you agreed to pay it because apparently you have no solution of your own. So now that he got you up and running and everything is fine again you all of a sudden have a problem with the deal? Who's the swindler again?

If I was your driver it would have cost you a taxi, parts and dinner.

Seriously, it sounds like drivers are helpless nowadays..

Just had a friend break down and he called for a tow $900.00. Shop repair another $900.
Something I could have temporarily fixed with metal tape and a few small hose clamps..

Henry Ford was thrilled until he got an invoice from General Electric in the amount of $10,000. Ford acknowledged Steinmetz’s success but balked at the figure. He asked for an itemized bill.

Steinmetz, Scott wrote, responded personally to Ford’s request with the following:

Making chalk mark on generator $1.

Knowing where to make mark $9,999.

    Ford paid the bill

Not trying to be a complete douche but this is a similar example of your situation. Knowledge is valuable.

Yes it would be much cheaper to do yourself or at your favorite store BUT it happened when and where it did.

To me $1200 doesn't seem too expensive for a road call on a Saturday.
How much does it cost to sit on the roadside.

Would I want that expense? No. No one does.

You agreed to the $1200.00, what if it took 3 hours to fix and they wanted to charge more? Would you say ok, or would you say they agreed on $1200.00?
Did you call other shops in the area?

Someone mentioned having the driver fix. I've been down that road. He fixed it!
Fixing his fix cost 3x more than to have road call fix the first problem.

    Good luck.
