Ringing sound?!?

    Hey everyone,
    Hoping to get some insight on a ringing sound my 1994 Ford L9000 8.3 Cummins Quad dump truck is making. We try to do what we can mechanic wise ourselves on the weekend so we don’t have any downtime on the truck.

    It is very high pitch and only occurs when the truck is moving. Doesn’t matter if loaded or not anytime the truck is moving it makes this noise and doesn’t if it’s sitting idle. Ive included a video of the sound.



    Any ideas?

    Wheel bearings? I'd say thats bearings somewhere. Since it's not when its sitting I'd say drivetrain bearings somewhere. Maybe even the driveshaft, transmission, something going wonky there.

    It also apparently has a dog caught up somewhere in the drivetrain.

    Thanks for the feedback. The high pitch whistle hurts my dogs ears, sorry for the barking in the video. My husband said it is in the engine or in that area. He did say he will check the carrier bearing. Thanks again! Will post if we figure it out.

    If its coming from the engine bay, does it change with the RPMs? If so, could be a pully bearing. AC, alternator, belt tensioners, etc.

    Take the belts off and start it up.
    DON'T ALLOW IT TO RUN LONG ENOUGH TO OVERHEAT!!!!!
    That will help locate the issue.
    If the noise is gone, you know it is from something that the belts turn. Alternator, water pump, one of the tensioners, etc.
