I worked for Bulk in the mid 80's. Terrible company in my opinion. I didn't like working for penny's per mile ($.24). Lasted 3 months before I got a little smarter. I will admit that some drivers were very happy there. Hourly and mileage pay depends on the length of haul. Convoluted if you ask me. If it was a long drive, it was made out to be mileage pay. Anything to be able to pay the driver less and make the company more.

As for DTI, they come into the terminal I work out of to P/U loads. They are paid by the hour however there is no overtime for them. They are home every night. The two drivers I see say that it is slow for the most part. They also state that they keep the O/O's working while they sit. Doesn't seem right to me. But again, it is what I hear from them. No one has ever talked about leaving though. Maybe it is not as bad as they make it out to be?

I could not begin to tell you about their other company. Good luck in whatever you choose. At least DTI pays for all of the hours you work. I have not seen any OTR driver that can make the same claim. Unless, of course, they are a Union OTR driver.

    Drive safe

I took a road test with a company that was bought out by APEX. You'd see these trucks on the back roads in the desert where the driver was getting some sleep in a day cab. They were pushed hard for hardly any pay.

The road test was a run that I made with another driver and this is how it went. Started at 10pm, he drove out of Las Vegas to Baker. I took over and drove the rest of the trip. Went over to Old Woman Springs road to the cement plant way out in no where. Unloaded gypsum rock and back loaded dry cement. Got back to Vegas in the early morning then went to blow off the bulk cement. Then on to Moapa (50 miles out of Vegas) down a dirt road to a gypsum mine to load gypsum rock. Then back to the terminal and got there around 2 pm. The driver was paid $85. The boss came up to me and asked "well" and I told him he was nuts.

I talked to the drivers and all of them had tickets. Most were for speeding but they were overloaded all the time. Those same drivers went on to APEX and they told me nothing has changed. I'm glad I had enough sense to walk away to protect my record because I'm sure the company forced these drivers (with money) to run they way they did so they'd be stuck at that company.

Thats exactly how it was. except they have a super strict safety dept. More like annoying, they had thier own safty people out with radar guns making sure you wouldnt go over the speed limit or you would be fired. Then they would give you a load you could barely make and then it would take hours to blow it off. Because the silo was full. That was the worst trucking job I had ever had. I Was so stressed out and burnt out I ended up contaminating one of the loads. There was left over gysum rock in my pnumatic trlr. It was ok when all said and done but it was non stop go go go dont go home. The paycheck at the end of the week was good but id prob. be rolled over in a ditch if I was still with em.

JNIZLE. if u are looking to get into the pneumatic trucking. i would look up CTS, (central transportation system) out of wichita KS. my pops works there as a lease operator, we have talked to several of the co. drivers and they seem to really like the company. They run T600 KWs and Columbia Freightliners. not a bad company, and they keep their guys pretty busy. so look em up. u will find there number. in yellowpages or on manta. As for pay on Co drivers i dont really know what it is. I do know they dont really have a high turnover rate like some companies.. might look into em. if i can find out what company drivers are makin i will post it back on here.
