Not directly answered in Russian Rabbit's diary, and it's been half a decade since he was a newbie there so... looking for updates on the bottom-of-the-totem pole experience.

I live in New England, going to an interview for City Driver soon. Want to be armed with information before going so I can focus on more terminal-specific & less general stuff @ the interview.

    1. The 2018-2023 Agreement seems to imply after 45 days your pay gets bumped up to 18 bucks an hour. Is this accurate?

    2. How many hours could one expect to get per week? Seriously. Do they avoid OT like the plague? Or is an extra 2 hours a day ie 50hr/week or an extra 3 ie 55hr/week more accurate?

    3. They don't wanna run you over 11/hr a day? So 55hr/week is the max hours? Essentially 67.5hr/week due to OT after 40?

    4. How many stops a day does one generally make in this region as a city driver?

Asked at the tail end of a loooong other thread, figured I'll get more responses by starting a new thread.

It's actually only been 4.8 years since i started.

^^ looking forward to that. Being a city driver for any good ltl company is about the only driving job I’m interested in at this point lol m-f schedule and decent pay and benefits. I’m over working 12-14 hours a day for no over time pay and everything else that comes along with most cdl jobs

Thank you, I really do appreciate it!

Looking @ that master agreement that runs until 2023... R&L wants me, they pay more for the first 2 or 3 years then UPS pulls ahead by about 12%. But that's just raw wages based on 50 hours a week, not taking into account insurance costs, union dues, etc.

    We'll learn more tomorrow!

    1) This appears accurate per Article 26,section (d).
i like to post everything, but i don't want to post this because i figure if you get hired, then you'll get a copy of it and, otherwise, i would like to keep it confidential. i hope you'll understand.

    2) This is SO terminal dependent; i get the impression that if you're at the lower end of the wage progression, then they would more likely want to use you for longer days----less to pay out. UPSF is a numbers company first and foremost. NOT a freight company. Keep this in mind. This doesn't mean the job is bad. Quite the contrary. But keep it in mind.

i would have made more my first year, but i had to take off for a while for family reasons.

i have seen first yearers make at least 50K and more.

If you want to list the terminal here, fine. If you're more comfortable PM'ing, that is fine too.

    3) Again terminal/seasonal/timing dependent.
We have some terminals where freight is spilling out onto the street. i am presently running my tail off.

    4) i want to say presently, generally, 8 to 13, plus 2,3,4,5, pickups so could be 18 total for the day. This again, is terminal dependent.

But it's not the number of stops per day that is the concern. It is WHEN do you start, how much time you have to MAKE the stops, and what kind of deliveries are you making----is it mostly dockstops, or will there be lots of jerking around waiting for someone to bring a forklift around etc. that is the concern.

18 stops per day is ok when you start early and have mostly dockstops AND where you deliver has a lot to do with it---some areas do things the right way, some don't give a plop. More specifically, some people actually WANT their deliveries and will receive it promptly. Others don't give a toss.

My handle "Russian Rabbit," is taken from the term "Rushing Rabbit." And your butt WILL be rushing. Just remember that.

    AT UPSF NUMBERS = LIFE

If you can't produce numbers, then you are worthless as a human being and you should just die. Seriously.

This does not mean the job is bad. i think quite the opposite. But just keep it in mind.

Start with the city then go to the road board when there is an opening. And as R/R said depends on terminal.

Do you lose seniority when you go road from city?

FedWrex works like that, but we don’t.

UPSF must have some fast trucks because I had one of theirs walk away from me on 81 in VA earlier today.

I agree, feeder driver screwed past me while I was doing 65 on level road the other day. Must have been late or paid by the mileage, they are usually the ones doing the speed limit or less at all times.
