Oh, and before super grandpa trucker gets on and says that "my GPS has all the truck stops and rest areas listed with just a click...".

Mine will show low clearance bridges, rest areas, truck stops, wal-marts and weigh stations. It also recalculate your route if you make a wrong turn.

Figure if the trucker GPS isnt 'fail safe' from leading you down a road you shouldn't be on, then why bother with the few extra hundreds of dollars....when a GPS that cost me $80 does the same thing.

A GMC07 is a tiny GPS signal jammer/blocker, it blocks GPS tracking and data logging units installed in your car/autocar/truck/bike.

Most spy devices can be quickly installed on a car/truck and allow the users to track your every move using Google earth etc or a GPS recording system. This GMC07 (GPS jammer/blocker) will disable the GPS link and render the spy device useless.

We have had Magellans and they are pretty good, but like everybody mentioned none of these things are perfect. You still have to use your head and the map to make sure. That being said, I couldn't truck with out it.

For those interested in buying a GPS check out Amazom.com I bought one there last week and I got it alot cheaper than any where I could find. Included free shipping.

I am surprised no one mentioned World Nav. I have been reading about this GPS for a while and it claims to be the best Truck GPS system available.

    It is rather pricey though.

I am much too cheap to buy one so I really do not know if this system is worth the price or not.

Maybe one of the other members here have some first hand knowledge of this system?

This unit is large enough to see without your glasses. I have it on my dash next to my Magellan gps. Oddly, we use them both at the same time. WorldNav is slow-w-w to recalculate routing, and chooses the worst times to do it, like appoaching an intersection. It will, however, find truck routing with hazmat. It has an amazing data base of restaurants and truckstops. Magellan will allow input of the destination zip code, which is really handy, especially for military bases that have their own zip. So, each one has some good and weak points, but with both on, and the brightness turned down at night, we never miss. Still use my Atlas, just to make sure, every trip. These things are no replacement for our brainpower.

    jlkklj777 Thanks this.

Do you have yours set to find the shortest route? A lot of times thats how they are set and it may not be quicker but its definately shorter. All it knows is that you want the shortest route and thats the way it will take you. It doesn't calculate the travel time. I always had it plan a route using the shortest route and then the quickest travel time. Sometimes you could save an hour or two by going an extra 20 miles.

We do check and compare shortest route vs quickest route on the Magellan gps and on the WorldNav gps. Sometimes there is a difference on shorter trips, like under 500 miles. On longer trips the two settings show little if any difference. Another odd thing about the WorldNav gps is that in bright sun the screen is not bright enough to see, even if all the settings are adjusted up. After it warms up for a couple hours it is somewhat brighter, but never as bright as the Magellan. We got the WorldNav with the accessory video camera to hook up in the back end of the truck. That's on my to-do list.

Sorry for reviving an ancient thread, but I did finally buy a GPS unit.

Got a Garmin Nuvi, it's not a "trucker's" GPS, but I am very pleased with it. It does the job I wanted it to do, which is find the shippers and receivers.

Plus, it gives me exact mileage to same, and gives me a pretty accurate ETA.

I would say it lowers the "stress level" about 50 % or more.

A good investment for me, that's for sure.

What can I say, I was a late adopter to cell phones, too.

Just make sure to double check with a trucker's atlas. I have a truck version GPS and sometimes it will route me where I should not be in a big truck...:biggrin_2554:
