Those are wind turbine blades.
The pilot cars can steer the rear when needed. If set up for it. And they check for height clearances , and block traffic.

 

Yeah, wind turbine / windmill blade. You see a lot of those moving around in the mid-west these days where they are building a lot of wind farms in open farm land. Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Texas, etc. Even up north around the Dakotas and such. The blades don't look that big when they're up on the structure b/c the comparative scale is absent but yeah, they're huge! I hear those drivers make really good money but it's really slow going. I'd imagine you need a lot of patience for that kind of driving.

 

L&M wind power in North Dakota makes them. There’s 12 blades on the road every two days.

You must not run the Midwest much. If you had to deal with the drivers every day your opinion might change.

 

I've actually heard the opposite about the pay. Nothing official, just through the grapevine. Curious what the truth is.

 

They look like airplane wings because they both work for the same reason. Wind turbine blades work when the wind moves past them. Wings work by moving them through the air. In both cases lift is generated.
