It varies according to where you work. Some newbies sign up to get paid $30k when they pick a company. Pick well and you can start out at $50k. You need a clean driving record, stable work history, be drug free.

 

I hear bad things about the union in trucking. What are the pros/cons?

 

That is the problem. I am not looking for OTR work. The pay is not good and I do not want to live on the road for any amount of time. I need to find a line haul gig or a city gig.
I may drive a beverage delivery truck just to get some experience in for that year and then go line haul.
