Hey drivers,
I am from the south, but I have been living in Utah for the last year and a half. I’m planning on getting my CDL at a school in the SLC area next month; Will obtaining my license in Utah keep me from seeking employment in another state? I would like to move back down south, however, I was told that if I move prior to getting my CDL I would have to wait a year. (Hence why I’ve decided to just get it in Utah now.)
I appreciate any advice anyone has on the subject. Drive safe everyone ✌

No, once you get your CDL license you can transfer it if you move to another state.
tscottme and Fabulous Maximus Thank this. -
Ok cool, I’m sure it varies by state but I wasn’t sure how big a pain in the ### that would be. Thanks man.

Who told you that you have to wait a year?
TripleSix, skellr, Dan.S and 1 other person Thank this. -
The CDL school I spoke to in Utah. I’m going to call the DMV in Texas and verify, I’m sure I didn’t get the whole story from the school.

If you have HazMat, when you change states I think you take the test again. Changing license between states is pretty easy.Fabulous Maximus Thanks this.

Once you have CDL in hand you can transfer in 20 minutes at any state in the Union. It took 15 or so minutes in my experience from Maryland to Arkansas. A vision test, couple of writtens and so on. Done and fees paid. I had become a home owner here and the CDL was good to go for many years no trouble at all.Fabulous Maximus Thanks this.
