He was 94 so I guess he knew he did not have much time. He was a great business man.
I never knew he was Italian.

I lived that era, some of his early cars were something else. But others were really ... bad. In some cases it was better to buy a import without issues in those bad years. The minivan was the one thing that completely and utterly killed the station wagon era. Toss the kids into the play area way in the back by the gates and do not see them until arrive at wherever.

If it wasn’t for the K-car(Dodge Aries/Plymouth Reliant, plus numerous variations of the platform)chances are then Chrysler Corporation would’ve died a slow agonizing painful death like a cancer patient(and the company was that close to getting snuffed out).
Nonetheless, the company defied all the odds under his leadership. His passing is a loss to automotive industry.

I like how his firing from Ford leaves out the whole pinto thing. Yes there were tons of people in the company that made the decision to move forward with it but he got pinched. He's a jerk, he fired me.......you were okay with projected litigation money from auto accident deaths being less than the cost to fix the problem in the first place. He accomplish many great things but also was a giant bag of #### at the same time. Those things seem to go hand in hand with the auto industry.

Whenever you get pissed off at executive bonuses and cutting "costs" like safety and wages to finance them, remember Lido, he started that crap.

During the government bail out, the thing I remember was, he not only convinced the feds to bail out Chrysler but to buy Chrysler products. I very well remember that during that time, just about every state & federal government car or truck you seen new was a Dodge, Chrysler or Plymouth. Every new car or truck teh states & Feds bought that year was of Chrysler decent.

That wasnt covered in the news as no one involved with that deal wanted anyone to talk about it, but everywhere you turned there was a new Chrysler, Dodge or Plymouth vehicle with government sticker on it.... and there were a BUNCH of them.... everywhere.

I remember that was a brilliant move/strategy. I had a LOT of respect for Iacocca.
