One of my old co-drivers was called to the drop yard and when he got there, our VP was there waiting for him. Told him he was done, the dude wanted to be home more than working and would usually run 1200 miles a week then not call in for a load til the weekend lol.

The guy was worthless, I got paired with him by the company for a very short time because they were short teams. But I did kinda feel for him, he always was dropped off at work by 3-4 others in his family so that day, he was fired in front of his wife, his 2 kids, and his brother-in-law.

After informing him he was fired, he told him “I can see your family needs it so we’ll do you a favor and won’t fight your unemployment”, with a big smirk on his face. Our VP was a jerkoff but he did make you laugh here and there lol

If you can't deliver loads on time you're worthless as a driver anyway.

The only valid excuse for being late is a major highway crash that shuts it down for half the day. Weather, city traffic, construction delays, fuel stops, etc need to be planned ahead. You should leave early enough to counter any of these situations unless the company dispatched you out late. It’s a big boy business, sink or swim.

I used to pick up preloaded trailers off the yard all the time. Mainly guys who need my load to go home or a breakdown that needs covered.
