Problem with that is there is no way to test if one is under the influence of weed. The best we currently have is "He smoked a joint within the last x (I believe 8) hours" Now once there are current intoxication test available, yea I see what you say happening.
Basically it needs to be as accurate as blood alcohol level tests are before the two can be compared.
Until that happens I have a feeling the insurance and/or companies up there will still have it on the banned list and a lawsuit would have little chance of succeeding.
Now that it's legal

It's only legal at the State level. Still illegal as far as the Fed's are concerned. That's why I'm still driving instead of building a couple of green houses.
So I wouldn't think any trucking outfits are weed friendly since you couldn't pass a urinalysis.

Ask around, call some companies that run Canada only.
Better yet, call the Federal Labour Commission and get their take on the situation.
Nothing to fear, they will tell what you need to know, good or bad, might even set you in the right direction.
I'm betting there's still a few companies out there that aren't judgemental or have bias or prejudice toward the evil weed, they just want good drivers and don't care if you have a toke on your own time as long as you make them money and don't do stupid things or wreck their equipment.
As it's been said already, Canada has to comply with the USA when it comes to cross border work and Canadian drivers have to give up rights and freedoms if they want a job running stateside, always been that way.
As a Canadian, you can't drive a truck in the USA if you choose to smoke weed, but you can if you've been a convicted rapist, or a pedophile, or a terrorist, or a murderer, or a scam artist, or a smuggler, or a bank robber, but if you smoke a little weed you're just pure evil.
I haven't driven a truck in 8 years due to health problems, but most of my employers knew I was a user, I told them I was, and they hired me anyway because I was an honest, conscientious, highly capable and experienced money maker with millions of miles under my belt with a good reputation and a proven track record who would look after their equipment and treat it right, and I was and still am one of the safest around.
My driving record and cost of auto insurance are proof of that.
I always hated forking out money for a drivers abstract and getting nothing but a blank sheet of paper with my name and address on it.Canadianhauler21, tinytim, Phantom Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
When weed begins to play a part in how you make life decisions then I would hardly call that freedom. It’s a freedom of choice but certainly not a choice to be free.

Gardewine. Apparently half their driver force shows up to work high.
From the rumours I hear.tinytim Thanks this. -
FOR TRUCK DRIVERS......?
just because it leagle in some states in the US doesn't make it leagle for truck drivers to use -
The OP is Canadian. Apparently things are different up there.

Whether they test or not it’s illegal in safety sensitive jobs.. I’m sure driving a transport might fall into that category ..

I thought that it was against Canada's Constitution to drug test.
