Well, first day on the road yesterday, driving into Dallas. I decided to see what it would be like to take a short route rather than practical. I made it from Davenport to Tulsa in just about 11 hours of driving. Lot of smaller roads. Missed a turn and since I didn't have truck routing turned on my software sent me down 3 miles of gravel roads to get back on track. I did get a $200.00 room for $65.00 using priceline.com. I have about 5 hours to get to Dallas this morning. I think after I get there I'll go see the new Star Trek movie.

OK, I made it! The address I had for the hotel we stay in was non-existant, so I had to find it on my own. Good training I guess. Got checked in and met my room mate 20 minutes ago and I already cannot remember his name. Gotta see if there is a theater nearby so I can go see the new Star Trek movie. Oh. and lunch!

I am thinking about going to Stevens Transport. I have 1 year and 4 months prior experience and a refresher course that I took a few months ago of 160 hours. I have never delt with QualComm before. That would be the only thing that I would need to get trained in. I also wouldn't mind going with a trainer for a few weeks to show me how the company works. Would I have to go through the whole training to become a company driver. I live in Bloomington, MN a sub burb of Minneapolis. I would have to find a place to park the truck or can I take it home. My neighborhood is really quiet but no area to fence it in and lock it. Or I can ask a friend of mine if I can park it in his poll barn in Lonsdale, MN on his farm. Would that work? It's only about 30 to 40 minutes away from my home 20. Other than that, for what you said in this thread puts me to believe that this is a great company to work for. I will be putting my app in on Tuesday (05-12-2009)

Ok, day one under my belt. Lots of paperwork, and even home work. Tommorow is physical and drug screen. Wednesday permit tests.

Day 2. Physicals. Screwed myself over a bit. Took my Diabetes pill this morning then left the room without eating, tried to balance it out by drinking a cup of OJ. My blood sugar was 151, they want it below 140. I have to go back to medical for a fasting check with no meds tomorrow. Studying for our first DPS test tomorrow. As long as I don't get the boot over the sugar we will be out on trucks learning to back. My blood pressure was fine this morning, that is what I was most worried about. Getting ready for bed now.

Day 3, passed my blood sugar test. Got to back a tractor trailer up about 50' and pull it back forward. No major problems with that. Then they sent me over to DPS to get my permit. They told me to take all the tests, I guess they send you back for the ones you fail. I passed them all on the first try! I didn't even get to reaad all the relevant info in the book. I am now officailly jazzed!

Congratulations Fozzy on getting your permit and getting the physical out of the way! You must be relieved to get those two things out of the way. Please keep us updated as to how you are making out.

Today we also filled out paperwork for checking if we can get into Canada. Personally, I hope they turn me down.

How are the accomodations? Read on this thread or another that the hotel was in a bad area. Why are you not interested in Canada? Is it because of border hassles?
