Personally I'm not going there just to own a truck but work for a company who has the freight and miles to run, the truck is an added bonus. I could go work for a company for 5 year as a company driver and at the end of 5 years have nothing to show for it but the same money I make at JCT or I could look into buying a truck outright which I may but I'm very concerned about the economy and paying for that truck, I certainly don't want to lose my house for the privilege of saying I own a truck.

VULCAN my post was not about you , what you may or not do , how you may or may not do it in your new carreer.
It was about the $ of a truck no more no less
And yes JCT have the work TODAY but what about next year or the year after, nothing etched in stone just look at the BIG 3 AUTO MAKERS.
JCT got out of company trucks for a reason
just like a lot of other companies who find it LESS exspensive to use power units they do not own.

how much do u think its gonna cost you if you buy new from dealership? Interest gonna be at least 11% those days, just looked up at truckpaper -new t660 going arround 130000. Gonna be over 150000 with interest - believe me. And its walk away lease anyway - dont like the job, just drop it.

There seems to be a lot of negativity from some, about those of us who have decided to try to better ourselves, by taking a chance on something. Something, I might add, that those who work here, seem to be doing at least OK at. I expect to put some money in the bank, hopefully pay a truck off, & at the very least, feed my family. If things go to crap, I have the money I have made, plus my maintenance fund, to go home with. I am very optimistic about this opportunity, as it seems others are also. From where I am sitting, it appears John Christner wins, & we as drivers win also. That is what it is all about.

I didn't mean to insinuate that you were talking about me, I was just rebutting your point. I fully understand what you mean, I had a company that I had worked with for 10 years and they decided to break a contract with me overnight so I know what it's like to have the rug pulled out, it is just JCT looks like the best choice for me right now and if it falls apart next year then I'll be doing the same thing I'm doing now looking for a new job. I can't just like you predict what will happen next year, can only go off of what is happening right now and the past year and they seem to have the freight. Luckily I have a close friend who is over there and he shows me his weekly settlements and I like what I see.
Plus keep in mind JCT pays the Road Tax, Reefer Fuel, Permits, Tolls, Scaling Fee and that price also includes insurance for truck and trailer.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2009
truckerdaddy24 Thanks this. -
With everything paid for you're looking at 156000+ if you go buy from a dealer. That includes taxes, interest, tags. It does not include insurance per year. With everything said, it will cost you about 600 per week if not more to get a new truck from a dealer.

Year 1 truck payment: $563 x 52= $29,276; $116 x 52= $6032 + $29,276= $35,308.
Years 2-5 truck payment: $29,276 x 4= $117,104 + $35,308= $152412 total.
JCT's purchase price with their discounts is probably no more than $100k, which means they made roughly $52,412 over a five year period on just one truck. Not a bad return on investment.
Because JCT can make money on the o/o's lease, they can pass on a cheaper rate per mile to their customers and garner more freight.
Dont get me wrong, as a Freemarket Capitalist, I believe they have the right to do this. They have found a way to make money off both the o/o and customer, more power to them. After all, the money they are making off the o/o is mostly interest the o/o would have paid to a finance company anyways. JCT has just found a way to keep it in their pocket.
The drawback to this program is that other companies, and indepenents, have to compete with the lower rate JCT can charge.
