As an aside to the ELD comments. I just spoke to a CA CMV Enforcement officer last week about the switch to hard wired ELD's for INTRA-state drivers after Jan 1st 2020,and he said they're extending the the time frame and you can still run paper or a compliant app like Keeptruckin' after Jan 1st, and they will set a new date for compliance.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Oh no! Please say it's not true!homeskillet and buddyd157 Thank this.

Short answer no, the back seat of a crewcab dose not legally count as a sleeper although I know of a few that Hotshot with and use them that way. I think the legal way is to just log off duty for your 10 hour break, never, never log it as sleeper. Your required to take a 10 hour break you are not required to spend it in a sleeper. If you dont have one dont log using it.

The issue is also present on the expediting site.
It seams every Tom, Dick and Henry thinks "I'll get a pick-up or van and the money will start rolling in ." -
Thank you kindly. I would love them to carry their Zeal over to the big stuff where real change might be done.

I agree.
We have a couple of super-cab 1 tons that we use for pilot cars, running parts, ferrying people around, and fire patrol. We seldom pull a trailer with them. One of them has a sealed wood lined insert for the bed kinda like a camper shell that we use for hauling explosives. That has to be placarded and all the usual hazmat rules apply but no ELD required.
The one tons don't require ELDs. We checked very carefully on that. The driver has to make out a paper log and the usual HOS rules apply but, so far, no ELDs.x1Heavy and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
why is there so much animosity here towards the idea? this is a forum for new guys. and what makes you think you can lump me into the pile of "tom, dick and henry" seemed like a simple enough question which i have researched quite a bit with no solid answer. i'm under no delusion that it is a get rich quick thing, however given my personal situation, it appears to be an ideal fit.Last edited: Jul 6, 2019

Here is what is required under FMCSA 393.76 to meet the sleeper berth requirement
eCFR — Code of Federal Regulationsx1Heavy Thanks this. -
i understand the requirement for a sleeper berth. my understanding is that as long as it is logged as "off duty" there is no sleeper berth requirement... you can sleep where you want. some say you can, some say you cant. i think the only strait answer i am going to be able to go with is contacting local dotx1Heavy Thanks this.
