I am just a company dry van guy but I’ve noticed something. Hardly any flatbed companies or owner ops use Volvo trucks, why is that?

Does Volvo just not make a truck with a long enough wheel base or is it something else?
A lot of what I see as company drivers are either Pete 579 but mostly it’s cascadias.

Too heavy. They need the lightest tractor to maximize their pay load.

Peterbilt’s are made out of aluminum, Volvo cabs are made out of steel.

You can only drive a Volvo if you wear sweats and flip flops and drive with your foot up on the dash.

Volvo’s are a great starter truck for a new driver... Other than that they are garbage.

The 2016, 670 I drove only had a parking brake on one of the drives. Couldn’t ever count on it to hold either...constantly had to keep adjusting them.

Ha, you’re funny. I’ve had my 2001 770 for 11 years now, never been on the back of a hook, never left me stranded on the side of the road and has almost 2,000,000 miles on it without an in frame.

    Yeah, their garbage.

A lot of Peterbilt's and KW's have parking brakes on one axle only. Frame length and side skirts maybe part of the reason. I know a lot of flat bedders have a thing about side skirts.

Don't know about Volvo, but Mack only puts spring brakes on one drive axle if you spec a 12K or lighter steer. If you want them on both drive axles, spec a heavier steer axle...or I suppose you could ask & pay extra for them.

“They don’t make em like they used to”

I pulled quad axle trailers with mine and typically grossed around 105k lbs. For what I was using it for it was garbage.

You must be in a weird area. I see Volvos running steps and flatbeds all day every day.
