Ok guys. So Im new here, but I have a question I couldnt find the answer to. I began training with werner 2 months ago. Hell of an experience. Ive been all in NYC's ###, and Jersey where the majority or the rudest drivers alive reside or commute, and Ive had a not-at-fault accident where some stoned dude slammed into me. My training is set to end this week once I completemy 300 hrs. I have so far beeen mislead by all the werner posts and have had a good memorable experience so far with no issues. I was out for 3 weeks while the truck was in the shop they paid me for it. Here my issue. They say to call job placement once your about a week from completion, and I have, but was told there is nothing in my area (Atlanta) available, and that I can be put on a waiting list. Im pretty sure I know the answer, but my question is this; If I leave werner after not being given a job essentially, will I have to train somewhere else because I dont have enough experience, or will another companylet me slide a little on that?

Most likely, you will have to retrain some where else for OTR. As another employer may not see the experience in the training from Werner. Keep up the good fight and try to get a truck through them first to get the OTR experience, though the wait is really gonna stink.

    Be safe, and good luck.:biggrin_25525:

The reason why they push you through training and know theres no driving position. Is because the government pays them 10,000 to train trainee. So they fill there orentation up with student put them with trainer and pocket the cash. You dont know how many guys i talk that was in the same situtation as you and was told to go home and wait. They was in the truck for 2 months sometime to find out that its no driving position avalible for them. but hey man im sorry to hear about that but thats trucking for you. Just stick in there and hopefully they will call you with something.

I appreciate the help guys, and yeah, I heard alllllllll of that stuff before I came. But unfortunately, Werner was the only place I got a pre-hire from. I went to CDL school at the exact time the economy was about at bottom (DOW 6,000), so noone got anything from anyone but Werner. I knew it was fishy, but had to get my foot in the door. Hopefully something will pull through. Im not attatched, and the person in job placement said they had some things available in Phoenix, and New York. So if worst comes to worst, I cane load up my #### and move to phoenix or something for a few months if thats what it takes, and once I get my 6 months experience I will be able to move back and work just about wherever I choose. Once again, thanks guy!!

Carefull, I was put on 48 and about a month later I was sent home due to "slowing economy" BUt the bright side was that I am driving locally right now, say that because its seasonal but its still driving and expierience. Good luck and be safe.

My unemployed bf is considering Werner because of the "pre hire" factor but I've read so many bad things about that company here. I value the information I read here and I'm going to try and get him to go with another company!!

Dont get me wrong. I personally have ZERO complaints for Werner as of now. My trainer is a great one, and a great teacher. And I have not had any issues with anything. Even when I was in a wreck and my truck was down for 2 weeks they let me go home and paid me for it, instead of making me stay in their hotel and wait for a new trainer. Although I know this is a rare occurrence, there are some lucky ones like me who have a good experience. However, all the bad hype that was washed away during training will reappear if they cant give me a job or something. My thing was that I didnt want werner, not at all. But I had to take what I could get at the time. The training is what you make of it. Even if your trainer is a complete dick, just put it behind you, and do what he says until youre done and it will be a lot smoother for you. And once youre done you can be passive agressive and give him a horrible trainers review, which can cause the trainer their job. Its all about getting your foot in the door. Once youre in, youre in. Tell your BF good luck!!!

Bosephus cant you tell them that your willing to drive OTR in the area's that are open. You may be out longer than you may want but the bills will get paid.

hey bosephus, stick in there mainly cause the work is slowing down EVERYWHERE in my opinion. Better stay where you are cause with your lack of experience its going to be harder to start somewhere else
