1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Will I ever be able to drive again?

Ok, I got my CDL in February 2007 and I ended up going with US Xpress. Overall I had a pretty good experience with them, none of the horror stories that many of you had with them, but I did have a couple minor preventable incidents with them. They didn't terminate me though, and they still gave me a satisfactory record on my DAC.

I had to quit them after 6 months though due to family issues at home. Shortly after I quit them I got hired on with this local company. I drove for them for about 5 months but got terminated from them because I scratched the corner of the front bumper on the tractor and didn't report it. This didn't go on my DAC though.

After I got terminated from them, I applied with several other companies being completely honest on the applications because I thought somebody would take my honestly into consideration and give me a chance, but unfortunately, I was turned down by all of them. I even tried going back to USX, but they wouldn't take me back either.

To make matters worse, I got a speeding for going 44 in a 35. I tried to fight it but I was still found guilty. At that point I decided to give up on trucking and move on to something else.

The crappy part about it is that I actually enjoy trucking, unlike alot of these other guys out here, but I also realize that with this bad economy companies only want the best of the best, and with my past problems I probably don't stand a chance of finding a job,at least not right now. If I waited 2 or 3 years though and didn't have any more problems, would I be able to get back out there? What do you guys think? By the way, I don't have any felonies, DUIs, reckless driving or suspensions.

Local companies usually don't report to DAC. You can't hide what U.S. Express put there. Take a tip from the military as far as the local job. Don't ask, don't tell.

kind of sounds like you have done everything right.... honesty always pays huge dividends, so keep your integrity and doors will open eventually. right now with the economic downturn, trucking companies are getting very picky (based on what i am reading in here). all i can tell you is to keep your head high, your character high (dont lie on an application), and your integrity high, and something will come along eventually. i know this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but it is all anybody can offer you at the moment.....

Sorry but it sounds like you don't really care about the fact that you seem to be accident (even if they are minor) prone. And the way you worded things...as long as you get away with it you don't really care.

You are in the group the insurance companies shy away from, from your history, insurance issues and costs are your biggest problem. Accidents, and speed, to most companies (trucking) and underwriters do not want the liability you bring to the table. With this history, you will be lucky to get on with the bottom file of the bottom feeders.

    Harsh but true.....sorry!

    (note to all other drivers)

If you have a gig, and less than 1 year driving experience, DO NOT QUIT until you have
    1. A minumum of 1 year verifiable experience
    2. Your next gig lined up
