What are your maintenance costs compared to the Ram Dually? Seems like you can get a pretty decent tractor for about half of what you would pay for a new set up dually. Most used dually's that you find are not geared great for full time pulling or they are too fancy & expensive. The only downside I could see of doing what you did is if the PM's are 5 times as much as a pickup. My luck, I would get a used tractor with 250,000 on it & have it in the shop half of the time.

My Ram was just under $41k brand new. '12 ST, crew, dually, 4wd, g56, 3.73, Cummins. Last year with no def. It had fuel dilution, so I had to do the oil early all the time, 5k-6k miles. Fuel filters were expensive, ~$75 bucks, & cost me $80 for 3 gallons of Chevron delo 5w40 synthetic, & a mopar filter. So for 12k miles it cost me $235.
The FLD cost me less than 25% of what I paid for the Ram. I didn't like the caps it had on the drives. I got some Ironman China closed shoulder drives for $1k out the door. Its gonna need steers here soon too. Needed 2 wheel seals, & a few lights. A/C compressor went out last summer. Few other odds & ends. Mattress, air ride passenger seat, just did u joints, sat radio & speakers, curtains.
PM wise, I can do myself for $199.50. That's 12 gallons of 15w40 OTR synthetic blend oil from fleet price, 2 fuel, & 3 oil filters all Baldwin. + a tube a grease, so maybe another $10 bucks.? I do the PM between 12k-15k miles.
So one freightliner PM cost me about $25 less than 2 oil & filter changes & one fuel filter for the ram for the same amount of miles.
I did have a TA do a PM once & it cost $330. A private shop did one & charged like $400 if I remember correct..Bean Jr. Thanks this.
