Is freight picking up any? The wife and I stopped our plans to drive again, a while ago. The rates were terrible. Fuel costs were.. well you know.
It occurs to me that I might try to buy an O/O or Independent's existing business (maybe with a load contract or two), as opposed to a "start Up business". We are not young (58) but not over the hill. Not too desperate either.
Any experience or thoughts about pursuing this (especially how to go about it), instead of ground floor would be welcomed.

You will be very and I mean very hard pressed to find a independent o/o that wants to sell his business with a existing contract. Mostly cause his name will still be associated with it until the contract is complete and also if he has a contract than more than likely he is profitable even in these bad times. Personally I would stay a company driver for now if that is what you are doing. But If ya really have your heart set on it and have the money then go find a company to lease on to. After ya find one that fits you and your wife then find the truck and if ya have to finacnce it GO THROUGH A BANK!!! Don't lease purchase cause most cause it doesn't work.
My advice as to which company to lease to is simple. Some place where you run for percentage and not mileage. Also a company that you are the dispatcher. If somebody else is dispatching ya your always gonna second guess them and sometimes feel like ya got shafted. These are just my opinions and take them how ya want. -
I know it won't be easy. Even selling my house is going to be chore these days.
As to your opinions - I am grateful. And take them to mind. -
I don't know about freight logs are running flat out right now!Jet Lag Thanks this.
