Things are picking up at our QC terminal and it's mostly like Hicksie said - preloadedtrailer out , less than 2 hours to unload ,then bring the trailer back. Shipper pays a roundtrip rate .

Great post Hicksie, keep it coming I am currently a gas hauler and someday far away I want to buy my own truck and haul nasty chemicals. I am leaning towards QC or Miller.

    Week 2

Well If I could have started out delivering Monday on week one I would be done with training. I have 1 more day and my training will be complete, and that will happen Tuesday morning.

Week 2 started out Sunday afternoon as I drove over to terminal to meet trainer and we did a load to Augusta and back to terminal. I was informed I would be swapping trainers because I needed to get a few chemical loads under my belt and the current trainer's truck wasn't set up for it. Little did I know my week was fixing to get super long.

The run wasn't so bad a dedicated run but customer wanted 2 loads a day last week so that made it interesting. We ran the truck as a team but the down side was trainer had to be up and on duty when I unloaded. Also had another trainee driving a day cab that he had to watch unload. The logistics were a nightmare due to not being able to get loaded in a timely manner. We got the week in but were tired as hell when we were done.

I will start week 3 with 1 training load a short one that will have me back in terminal Tue. morning chomping at the bit to get a truck.

I must say I was very impressed with how fast they had my direct deposit set up as I got my 1st check that way. Well I will let you all know how it goes next week when I get on my own. As of now I really like where I am at and very happy. I seem to have found my niche. I am not saying it is all a bed of roses but it is alot better then places I have been and everyone tries to do right for you. All for now I'm Out

OK all sorry for the long period before an update. Memorial day week started off on Tue. It was the last day with my trainer and we did a short trip to Atlanta and back. Got back and my trainer was asked if he would take me to Knoxville to meet another driver who would take me to Louisville Ky. to pick up a truck. And while we were there pick a trailer up that had been sitting at the shipper with stuck brakes and he could bring it back. We spent 2 hours getting the brakes to work and then I left with the other driver to get a truck and an empty to come back with. Picked up the truck and made it back with out much of a hassle. I spent the rest of the week doing local work and on the time clock as the truck I picked up is set up to do system work and the truck they wanted me to have is set up for food grade. So I had to trade with a driver who wanted to go into the system. Once we got moved in I loaded a load on Fri. going to Cleveland Oh. for a Mon. Del.

Now I left home Sunday and made my Del. Monday Morning and was told to deadhead back as I didn't have a reload. Found out load payed well enough that I still made money doing the deadhead. The rest of the week was doing the food grade stuff and I finished the week off with a Load to Mississippi that will be on next weeks check. all in all I have been pleased with the time I have with QC and really like the terminal I am running out off. I will post more as I go and will keep the good and bad posted but so far it has been real good. Later Hicksie

Glad to see it's going well for you . Did you get your Blackberry ? Watch out for the routing . It isn't set up for hazmat . It'll route you through Atlanta and Knoxville and other places you should bypass . I downloade Googlemaps onto the Blackberry . It uses the GPS to locate you and if you save a destination it will give you a distance and driving time to it .

    Hicksie,

We have a lot of QC company drivers that pick up material at the terminal we load at. They are paid by the hour for the most part. Some are paid mileage for longer runs (I disagree with that). I was told that it depends on what terminal you work out of as to how they pay you. Do you find that to be the truth? The only problem I see is that they do not pay overtime if you are hourly. Other than that, they seem to be a real good company.

Yeah i got my blackberry Rick. I didn't know about being able to get google maps for it.:biggrin_2551: I will have to get it, thanks for the info. Alot of what we are doing is food grade. Out and back. I have done a couple chem. loads but nothing to brag about. Thanks for the heads up on the routing also. We can pretty much pick the route we want to run, but the Blackberry does give you a good starting point. I have noticed the fuel stops it tells you to use to get the cheapest price is not to accurate.
