    Hey Bosephus,
I wish you luck with Werner. My training experience with them was outstanding until I completed my driving hours and then it went to h*ll. (see my other post) In the end I knew Werner had already got thier money for training me and gave me a Very small amount of it to drive as a team for them. In the end they made alot more than just the Goverments money off of me. It's very sad, but, if you noticed when you call any phone number at Werner your just an ID Number. They don't use your name????
Good luck with placement and getting a truck!

i just got back on with werner and i would like to say they are a very good place to work yes they have bad things about them but it is a good place. and the reson there isnt any jobs or it is slowing is coz the have closed the 48 states coz the drivers arent making the money they should be. so werner is making most of its drivers go Regional. like me i am 11 westen and i am on a sliding pay scale. so ur Region might be open just give it a lil time call every week i wish u guys the best and really werner isnt that bad yes they have some bad trainers and some bad people.... one last thing i have to say they have the best trucks out there

oh yeah i would stay if u have done ur training with werner STAY with them coz noone with hire u in tell u get at least 6mo of otr
so stay with werner. just think it has allread goten bad now the better should be coming

    Absolutely true!

    Me: Hey this is Rob
    Them: *Silence* Uummm Employee number?

I can understand that with all the students they flood their system with though. But when it comes to the dispatcher that we have, he legitimately knows us, and makes sure things are well. If we need a break, hell work something out. The traiing experience is just so #### impersonal. I was raised in south Ga, so a family atmosphere is definitely something more keen to my liking. But I gotta take what I can get. Just as an update, I called job placement again today with, of course, nothing available in my area. I did however explain that I wasnt tied down to that area and could relocate anywhere there was a position. I would deal with it for a few months and if I hate it can leave with the experience necessary to get another job. The response I got was that there are mulltiple openings, but because my home address is in Atlanta, they cant tell me where the other locations are....WTF?!? This ##### actually said that I would have to just move and call them after I did so to see if there was anything open, as if that didnt defeat the purpose of me telling her I was available to move if there was an open position. Stupid....Anyways, my trainer called in for me and talked to someone he knew personally, and basically said, "You dont need to lose this guy. He runs his ### off, and hes got a good head on his shoulders, most of all, he can drive! Which is more than I can say for a third of the students that they put on my truck." So she agreed to keep her eyes and ears open for anything and let us know ASAP. A little bit reassuring I must say. I will keep updating on the situation. Thanks for all the help and input!

    Yeah Rob,
I feel your pain on the situation, I feel I had the BEST trainer Werner could give me, and he made the same calls to whoever he could and told them that I could drive and was one of the hardest workers/trainees that he ever got. But, in the numbers game they just have too many trainees to deal with. They sit back and wait to see who will quit, who cant pay thier mortgage and bills after three months. That was my big problem, I had an awesome time driving and learning but now I'm digging in to try and keep my house, dogs, horses and my family together. That training pay barley paid for food and utilities while I was gone. I believe this is what Werner counts on, they have already been paid triple for pre-hiring you. Their money is already in the bank. There will be plenty more people behind you with the dream to drive to fill thier bank account.
    IMHO

Here is my advice/opinion for what's it's worth... Do NOT believe everything you and/or your boyfriend read on here. Not just about Werner, but about all carriers. Do you own research then make decisions. If you will notice there aren't too many posts that have glowing reports about carriers especially from new people to the industry. OTR isn't just a job, it's a lifestyle and many can not or will not adapt to it.
But, there are many, many excellent posts on this site and from people knowledgeable in the industry. What I am saying to you is not to believe everything you read. Form your own opinions about carriers. Who knows, maybe Werner will be a fit for your boyfriend. There are many drivers with Werner who have been with the company 10, 15, and 20 years, so it can't be that bad.
Also, remember that the economy is still bad for trucking companies so he may or may not get a truck right away when he's completed his training, no matter who he decides to go with. Go luck and remember to be supportive when he makes his decision.

Werner has about 8,000 trucks and 24-25,000 trailers... So how many employees do you think they employ? How many have the same name? Lot of John Smiths, etc. LOL. It's the only way they can make sure they are dealing with the correct person. ALL of the larger carriers do the same thing. This is not just Werner's way of dealing with employees. If you want to work for a company and be on a first name basis, you'll have to look for a much smaller carrier.

Thanks Luvthe road. Me coming on this website was part of my research, I was reviewing truck companies and came across this site and value the information. I've seen that everyone has something to complain about where they work but Werner seems to have the most complaints and that's why it worried me that my bf seemed set on that place. Since then he has found a company who gives classes and CDL's much closer to where we live. We just have to figure out the enrollment and pricing and hopefully someone calls us back soon about that. I would give you guys the name to hear your opinions on that one as well but I've forgotten it.
Thanks again, I really do appreciate the input.

Yeah. I love being OTR, but the unknown factor is hell. You get into the industry and think "OK the deal is done, Im driving with this company in training and as soon as training is over, assuming I pass the tests, I will have my own truck". Not the case. You arent really guaranteed anything. And if you are cut loose, or have to leave, you are back at square one. Hopefully I can get into a truck here. I have 24 hrs of training left, and have a trip to PA from ATL this week. Should be done by Wednesday. Well see how it goes. If anything, I plan on taking some home time since Ive been out for over a month straight and talking to some smaller local companies where Im from justin case.

So they have no OTR positions available based out of the Lithia Springs terminal? I wouldn't have expected to hear that--no regional available, maybe, but OTR? But then again, I drove by that terminal a couple of weeks ago and there weren't many trucks sitting there.

Ya know, I've heard that claim that "the government pays them $10,000 for each person they train" many MANY times. As a matter of fact, the figure has grown quite a bit since I first read it in 2007. To date, nobody has come forth with any evidence of this. Can someone please provide proof of this? Even as wasteful and retarded as our government is (both state and federal), I dont know that I could swallow this claim without some proof.
