Do any off you know of a service provider that would walk me through the process of IRP and IFTA in south Florida? Also need HUT for NY.
I'm still waiting on my title from the FL tax collector since my title is from OH where I bought my truck. I'm googling everything for Florida IRP but I am finding it confusing and don't know where to call or go in order to get my questions answered. Don't want to travel to Tallahassee and not have everything in order and have to run back and forth.
I'm leased to a company in IL, using their USDOT and MC numbers and also insured under their policy, my truck belongs to my company located in FL. I personally live in NY (for now). I want the IRP under my company name.
Willing to pay for the service of walking me through all this and get it done asap. Will be in South Florida next week (flexible).
Appreciate any help you guys can offer.

I I can't help with Florida IRP, but NY HUT is easy and doesn't need a service provider. They have a simple website, follow the directions and create your online account, order the decal and they mail it to you.
You will need to track your miles in NY, they have a few options for how to report those miles. Myself, I used the unladen weight option so I didn't have to track loaded vs. unloaded miles. I then kept track of my NY Thruway miles to get the credit for those since there is no HUT due on the Thruway miles.

I don't know where you're staying but you don't have to go to Tallahassee. I go to Sunshine state tag agency in St. Pete. There is another in Avon Park called central state apportioned tag agency that maybe closer to you. Look at their websites or just call one up & ask what you need to bring in.
Out of state new title you will need a vin verification. A cop will come to you & fill out a form. You'll definitely need to bring that in.
They will need a COI of the company insurance faxed to them while you are there. I call mine in on the drive up so its already there..
Maybe a copy of the company's MC permit. (Operating Authority)
They might mention a 2290 form but disregard it. That is for trucks with a registered weight of 55k or more..
I'll let you know if I think of any more stuff. My ol' lady handles most of my paperwork now, so I'm a little out of the loop on some of it..
I'd also ask the company you are going to lease to for help with this. That's kind of the point of being leased I thought. Let them handle this part for the percentage of cash you will be giving them. And just call one of the IRP offices. They can provide a more complete list of what you'll need. I'm independent & always have been so the paperwork is a bit less involved..24kHotshot Thanks this. -
Yea, I already did the VIN verification through a notary for the out of state title just before 4th of July and have my financing bank send a copy of the title and it should be at the tax collector's office when I get there. Registering my trailer seems straight forward.
The company I am leasing with doesn't do IRP, the trucks they own are all 26k lbs. They don't understand/have any experience with it either. They actually called me for help in getting one of their trucks apportioned plates in IL... My lease on is just for the DOT,MC numbers, insurance and dispatch.
I'll make sure to get a copy of the MC permit.
(don't know what a COI is) Have the insurance company itself fax the policy to the IRP office I am going to or have to bring in a copy myself?
Once everything is brought in and is being processed do I get a temp plate/registration till the plates are mailed to me? How long should all of this take?singlescrewshaker Thanks this. -
For the tags there is no temporarys I'm aware of. When your application is complete, all the papers they wanted, & they are paid (they charge extra if using a credit card) you will be handed your tag or tags depending how you register. (1 for tractor 2 for truck) You'll be ready to rock & roll in the IRP department.
How long it will take depends on if you have all the items they ask for. Also the last week of the month tends to have longer lines around here because people like to procrastinate. IRP tags expire according to last digit of dot #. Mines 8 so I renew every August. If I go 1st or 2nd week I'm in & out in 40mins. 3rd week is a crapshoot, 4th week I'll be there 3-4 hours..24kHotshot Thanks this. -
How do you guys track your miles/fuel purchases?
I see an option on copilot that will track your miles in each state. Is copilot any good for this?

I use to use Rand McNally and PC.
It kept track of miles automatically.
Fuel you had to enter amount and gallons purchased but Rand would give you location.
If you are familiar Excel transfer mileage and fuel files to PC.
Open in excel, sort alphabetically, insert a couple of lines between states so you can total for ea state.

I have a Garmin DEZL 570 that keeps track of miles & highways used by jurisdiction. It's always off on the miles compared to my hand written. Because of that I only use it as a backup for miles. Highways used are usually good, but I also hand write my route so it's a moot point..
People probably think I'm nutz, but I stick a post it note on the dash & just write my odometer with state abbreviation as I cross state lines. When I shutdown for the night, I do the math for each state I went through. It really only takes about 2mins a day..
Fuel I just stuff the receipts in an envelope & add them up by state once a week or so. I fuel to the whole gallon to make the math as simple as possible. This is a old school way of doing things. It may not work for most, but I wouldn't have it any other way. No electronics to fail me. Go figure, I'm a paper log user too..
