Do these even exist in LTL (linehaul) ? Over 20 years behind the wheel, 15 of it off and on gas tanker. Ideally a run to get back by early am say 3-4 o'clock everyday

Fedex Freight has very short runs with dock time in the Chicagoland area. Hook set, drive less than 50 miles to hub. Work dock 4-5 hours, sometimes less. Hook set and drive back to your home service center. Usually around 8-9 hour day. Sometimes you can get back in under 8 hours. When I get stuck with one of these garbage runs I’m typically in my car headed home between 4-5 in the morning.

I’m sure there may be one out there somewhere, but linehaul runs are typically a 10+ hour day between your route and some have you work the dock.

Tough to really call it a garbage run if you’re back and gone before it would be time to send you out somewhere after swapping trucks to sort and segregate for 3-4 hours.

Try working the dock for 5 hours overnight then look at the paycheck at the end of the week and see if you still find it tough to call it a garbage run.

    Thankfully I don’t have to. ;)

I was glad when I could get the hell out of dodge before they pulled some crap like that.

We got one at our barn that pays 199 miles each way. Driver hooks set, leaves at 19:30, arrives at terminal at 22:45, breaks set and hooks departure set. Leaves around 23:15 and arrives at home terminal at 2:30. It’s our retirement run and actually pays pretty well with all the breaks and hooks that you get paid for.

Sounds like a good job, do they hire new CDL grads ?

They require 6 months of experience. You can check out SEFL.com for job listings in your area. More than likely you will have to start P/D and try to get a line run when one pops up. Like with most LTL jobs it goes by seniority and a run like I posted about at our barn stays with senior driver. That’s why we call it the retirement run.

Yeah, Estes has these also at most terminals. Usually less than 400 miles, some as little as 6-7 hours a night. Some with dock work some without.
