I was hoping I could just get a kind of survey going to see what is supposed to be the norm here. I have a CAT 3406E and my oil temperature is usually around 200-225 degrees.
Cheers

Hello Canuck: about the same temp readings here. Will get alittle warmer on a hard pull on a hot day.
-
2001 C-15 here, and it runs between 180-200. If I'm really working it I may see 215.
-
about 195-205 but will rise to 240 when using the brakesaver on a steep grade
-
Hello 830hp C16: How long does it take the brakesaver to get the oil that hot?
-
Don't know if my oil temp gauge is correct, always seems to be on the cool side, generally about 30 degrees cooler than water temp.
On the average, water temp = 180, oil temp = 150
I have noticed that since my injector codes were changed to 5232, oil temps will increase if I "gouge on it", hill climbing, etc., also if I use my engine brake (jake) alot. -
My 07 Acert runs 200~215, up to 230 on hard pulls. One thing to remember is the old Cats have the oil temp probe in the oil pan and will have a "lower" temp reading than today's Cat, where the temp probe is in the oil cooler.

I have a '06 C-15 ACERT running Schaeffers 9000 full synthetic and the oil temp runs around 200-210. If I really need get after it going up a hill it will climb to about 240.
On a side note I have heard rumors that some of the newer CATs don't actually have oil temp sensor. From what I have been told the ECM figures the oil temp off of the coolant temp and air temp sensor readings. I don't know if this is true or not and to be honest I haven't looked on my motor for the senor. Maybe I'll go look for it now. -
That would be a tad odd wouldn't it? I mean, if I'm looking at a temp gauge I would want to know it's reading the temperature of something directly; not making a well educated guess.

It only gets that hot on the big hills eg: 9% grade,100k lbs gross weight,5th od (with 4.33 rears) holding at 1900rpm it would take about 1.5 minutes but cools down fast
