I looked couldn’t find it.
If my appointment is for 1:00pm. And I get there @12. There’s a truck waiting to get loaded because the people are on lunch he’s completely empty, meaning it’s pushing my time probably between 2-3. Plus getting loaded is that considered off duty. Or on duty.
On duty or off duty.

Do you get paid for waiting?
Boundtransport, FlaSwampRat and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
Anytime we weren't rolling when I was delivering raw milk we were off duty or sleeper-berth.
Comes time to move the truck into position. Off duty parking conveyance. In comments enter "parking move".
Do your Move than go back to off duty or sleeperberth. I prefer going into sleeper berth that way if something unpredictable happens and you get held up at the site you can roll in 8 hours using the 8-2 split if you had hours left before you parked.mitrucker, homeskillet, Boundtransport and 2 others Thank this. -
Paid to wait...you're on duty.
No paid to wait...you're off duty.Gearjammin' Penguin, x1Heavy, Trucker61016 and 2 others Thank this. -

Then I would say no you are not, and log it as off duty.Boundtransport Thanks this.

Ok well let me detail it more. I’m working with my father owner of the truck. So am I being paid. Technically yes. Is he in the truck no. I just don’t want my clock to run for #### near 3-4hrs and I haven’t even hit the road yet. The load we’re picking up was not far from home office. I’m heading to Maryland #### 7hrs away. So the wait is really cutting into my time.

Even if you’re paid to wait you can log it off duty or sleeper berth to save your 70 hours.
If you’re home every week and never come close to using your 70 hours then you can log it on duty just for the heck of it.scottied67, 12 ga, ShortBusKid and 2 others Thank this. -
When I first started driving the guy I shadowed taught me if you ain't moving go off duty. This included running in for a pizz.
You never know what the rest of the week will bring and minutes wasted add up that you may need at the end of the week.
At first I was like yea yea yea and didn't do it all the time. Most of the time I didn't Run that hard anyways .
Well 6 months in I got burned by my 70 trying to help the company by covering for another driver. I looked at all the hours I wasted and realized I would have easily completed my trip if I had gone off duty at previous stops
Where it can really help you out is with your 8 hour 30 minute break
. There has been times where a five minute grab some coffee break turned into a 19 minutes oh Krap
Take another 11 minutes while you are there even if it is early in your day just so you can restart you 8 hour drive clock .
I drove through traffic going around Chicago up to Wisconsin 4 times a week.
You never know when traffic of an accident is going to Burn your clock .
Also my drive clock took a mile or 2 too switch over to drive so. Could gain minutes on my drive clock.
I am the King of arriving at my appointments or stop for the night with 1 or 2 minutes left on my Drive clock.Last edited: Jul 10, 2019
