Ok , first of all farmers gets subsides truckers don't, and 2nd tool chest you bought for 5k will be worth more then 500 after 10 years, that 200k truck in 10 years will cost 20--40 grand at most with 1 000 000 miles on it

And don't forget that neither combine or tool chest will going to have accident with a stupid idiot on a road who might gonna crush in to you

 

I think it's just like buying cars... As soon as you drive it off the lot the value goes down by 10% or more. So why would you ever buy brand new???... Do your homework, research, and look around to find a good, solid, used one 2 to 5 years old... Doesnt matter if it is a car or a truck, same principle.

 

It’s not like you’re buying something just to park it and stare at it. You’ll be generating income with it and unless you’re lazy you’ll be making enough to support a truck payment that’s north of $2k. If you’re running 12k a month with a $2500 payment that’s a fixed cost if 21cpm.

 

New vs used depends on your business model. The guy that I bought my truck from gets a new one every two years. All he does is drive them, changes the oil, and puts on one set of steer tires. That’s what he’s been doing for years because he doesn’t want to mess around with maintenance.

 

If you can make 300k a year with a car you must know something I don't.

 

Just to contrast that I've had years that hit nearly 40cpm in just Maintenance costs alone. If you're going to run it hard I don't think their's anything wrong at all with buying a brand new 200k truck.

I have about 200k in tools that I could probably only get like 60k for if I had to sell everything in one shot. I spend a lil over 1400 a month for oem software so I have a constant maintenance cost. The numbers don't seem too far off from trucks to tools except for the day to day cost, truck is much more with fuel and maintenance. If I was not swinging wrenches for myself I would make 20-30 an hour depending on the shop. This opened my eyes a lil, it makes the big expensive trucks sound more doable to me. The big difference is like you said, I won't have some idiot run into my tools and destroy them.

 

Well if it has a big trunk, and you transport illegal drugs...
