New Penn HQ shut down by YRC
For a while now the speculation has been that even YRC's manglement would come to the realisation that they are running parallel services in the same locations with separate barns. Not to mention HQ/s of each of the other carriers. I think they will use New Penn as a start to see how it goes, but obviously Holland and Reddaway are next.
Today I saw a USF Reddaway trailer, and as I pulled alongside the tractor was still in that livery. I thought maybe a one-off, but at an exit a few miles ahead there was a another set still in USF paint sitting at a light. In certain places I've seen sets still all Roadway or Yellow.
At some point, if and when new equipment is bought, there's going to be a temptation to cut costs by making it all YRC-logoed, closing one of the barns at a given location, and consolidating the traffic.
Not saying it's the right thing to do, but the only surprise is how long it's taken to get started.
The YRC consolidation begins

I think the one thing working in Holland's favor is that they don't pull pups. I don't know how much interest they would have in consolidating them with the rest of the company, given their lack of experience with doubles.
As someone who worked at yellow from 2007 to 2009, it is just the oddest feeling, watching all of this go down. When they tried to call me back from layoff in 2013, I just kind of laughed out loud. It was a completely different company by then. And the changes continue.Mike2633, Bob Dobalina, speedyk and 4 others Thank this. -
Yup, I am suprised that so many years they had separate divisions.Remember that OTR team one was sold to Covenant ???

The Saia family sold Saia to Preston Trucking in 1987. The Yellow Corporation purchased Preston Trucking, along with Saia, in 1993. In 1995 Saia merged with Smalley Transportation resulting in the establishment of terminals in North Carolina, South Carolina and western Texas. In 2002 Saia and Jevic Transportation, another Yellow Corporation subsidiary, spun off to form an independent publicly traded company called SCST.
In December 2003 Yellow Corp. acquired Roadway Corp. for $1.05 billion, forming Yellow Roadway Corporationrabbiporkchop, LtlAnonymous and bzinger Thank this.
