Hey guys, question on a truck
Its a synchro 6, so no clutch brake
I can feel the gears moving going into reverse with the clutch all the way at the floot, even after waiting several seconds
A shop suggested clutch needs adjustment, but I have about 1.5" of free play. Either way its not a slipping issue, but seems like it doesnt release all the way?
Any pointers?
I just had the trans changed by a shop but they said they didnt touch the clutch
Much appreciated. Thanks

Reverse doesn't have synchro. So if it doesn't stop, put it in a forward gear, which will stop the gears, then you should be able to put in go backwards.
Hulld and daf105paccar Thank this. -
Thanks but I need to fix this not work around, I have different people behind the wheel and cant trust them to do this everytime, they will just end up jamming it in..

With a syncro gearbox correct procedure is to put truck in first gear and then reverse.Hulld, spsauerland and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
You could have an issue with the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft going bad.
spsauerland Thanks this. -

I understand what youre saying and have read that suggested prior to asking on here, it just doesnt seem right because if a driver doesnt do this, damage is likely to occur. Its a synchro, so obviously shifting skill is not part of driver knowledge like on a 10+
Might call Eaton and askdaf105paccar Thanks this. -
No matter who makes a synchronized transmission there is absolutely no synchro for reverse.
This is because in a single transmission application you always come to a complete stop going from forward to reverse or vise versa.
If you are having trouble engaging reverse the only problems that I have seen cause this is the pilot bearing going bad and seizing to the input shaft causing the input shaft to spin with the the clutch in.
The other cause I have seen is a broken clutch disc spring falls down between the clutch disc and the pressure plate wedging there causing the clutch to drag so the shaft continues to spin even though the clutch is in.spsauerland, Bean Jr. and Heavyd Thank this. -

The trans they installed had a bent input shaft they told me, and replaced it with another (used) one, so I am now understanding how this works, with your help. Thanks all, I have somethibf to go off mowm
